I figure that if I want anything over 24' i need to go 2500x1600 and those are over $1000.So im gonna stay in the 24' range. I have narrowed it down to :

Dell ultraSharp 24' http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-5647

Samsung 24' http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001234

Price is a little higher on the Dell but if its that much better I wouldnt mind spending it.
What do you guys think between the two, all the spec are almost the same.
Both running 1920X1200, 1000:1 contrast, responce time faster on samsung 5ms compared tto 6ms. Is there a clear choice????

Yeah their is a clear choice, but it wholly depends on what you are doing. If you are gaming, and don't mind the downfalls of a TN panel (poor colour/viewing angle) then go with the samsung.

The dell 2407-HC has major ghosting issues, that are not being fixed, period. It's been stated in official dell forums by Dell CSR's.

If you want another option I'd say look at the Benq 24" or the LG 24", LG is a little nicer screen, but no DVI, only can use HDMI to DVI which means no sleep mode through windows, Ie you have to turn the monitor off manually everytime.

I've been through the exact same choice as you, as it seems I'm leaning heavily towards the Benq.. or simply waiting until Dell drops a new model out with a different panel.

I put a 245BW on my desk last week and love it. It looks great in games and doesn't have one dead pixel. The stand adjusts nice, and it looks fantastic. The brightness was set crazy high, like all the way up, and I'm currently running it at about "60" and it seems fine.

This is the first 24" panel I've ever owned, but I have no regrets. Got mine at Costo for a few bucks cheaper than I could find on line....

I am in the same boat as the OP.

Except at the moment I have the Dell 2407 HC, and I am absolutely livid with this inverse ghosting issues. I wish I could return it but it has been past thirty days - I really didn't get up close to it that much and in the dark because I was using it as a TV (for the PS3 until I built the new rig) in a well lighted room.

However, the more I pop in that BenQ thread the most I want to stay away from it :<

Just why can't there be a no ghosting, great contrast and colors monitor with at least two DVI or HDMI inputs?!? WHY?! :(

Jeez I'm glad I cancelled my order on the 2407WFP HC. As for the OP's question the Samsung doesn't have the dell's problems but it does have a hella lot of input lag. If you can put up with that it's a great monitor, if not your better served elsewhere. I personally gave up on 24" monitors and got the 2707WFP, it may not be problem free but it certainly seems like a better option to most of the 24 if you can stomach the higher dot pitch. If you can afford it you might want to look at the NEC 2490WUXI, I'd have gotten one but the WAF wasn't high for a 24" that costs double the price of any other :p

I hope this post helps you out. For the past month and a half I have been trying to find myself a nice LCD to replace an old dell 2405fpw which I want to pass down to an emerging family gamer. First I ordered the Dell 2407FPW-HC which took almost three weeks to ship. To say the least it went back after two days due to the ghosting; it was extremely bad and very disappointing for an lcd built in the end of 2007.
Next I went with the Samsung 245BW in an attempt to save a few bucks and while it was a good monitor for gaming, the vertical viewing angles were horrendous. When i leaned back in my seat the screen got very dark losing almost all detail. I noticed no lag and no ghosting at all on it and if you don't mind adjusting it depending on your view angle I think its worth the money (you always have to view it from a slight top-down angle).
That was the final straw and I told myself I would try to buy the most expensive lcd that I could possibly afford. That is when I decided to give NEC a shot with their 2470WNX. It looked very plain and ugly compared to the others and cost A LOT more for what it seemed to offer(only dvi/vga inputs, no p.i.p). However, it has proven to an excellent display that overshadowed both others by a long shot. I finally have a smile on my face and a keeper but it will take some time for my wallet to forgive me. Still, I'm extremely happy with its performance and image quality. Its a fantastic display if you can get over the asking price. I only hope the customer service will be there for me if need be as I have never dealt with NEC before.
Good luck and happy hunting

Thanks for your input, I'll see if any of my local stores has one, and see how it stacks up like you said! :D

Supposely the Dell 2407WFP A04 non HC dosen't have the inverse ghosting. You might be able to find one new on ebay and I think Alienware sells the non HC model too.

Do you have any sources? I bet it doesn't since it probably uses the other cheaper display type (I don't know monitors that well) so it probably doesn't have the inverse ghosting but probably is plagued by backlight bleeding, color inconsistency, and small viewing angles.

All 2407WFP's use S-PVA panels. The HC one just has a 92% color gamut and the non HC has a 72%.

The Samsung 245BW only has about 8-10ms input lag according to this site

Actually 27" (Samsung 275T) and 27.5" (Viewsonic VX2835WM) are still have native resolution of 1920x1200. Samsung 275T is on sales this week at www.bestbuy.ca for $900 and VX2835WM for $720. Jus that I don't think image quality wise, these bigger panels are better than the 24".

Try to source a Samsung 244T if you can. It is way a better class then the 245BW. You might a 244T in a clearance sale as it has sadly EOL'ed.

I'd look into the gateway FHD 2400 its newish and is definately impressive.

Has anyone found any reliable sources for the new non HC 2407 (E248 IIRC) that it doesn't share the same inverse ghosting as the 2407? Or does it have an entirely different type of screen (I still need to read up on the different types, PVA, TFT or w/e etc :<) and has its own set of problems?
