alright, I'm building a new PC (familiar story) and after *much* research, I'm fairly confident I'll be ordering the Dell 2007WFP. I want to have a good multipurpose monitor (web browsing, gaming, movies) with a good quality picture in the $350-$450, and it sounds like the Dell 2007WFP is the one for me. I'm not overly concerned with ghosting, I'm fairly certain my current laptop screen suffers from horrible ghosting and its never bothered me before even while playing DoD. I'm more concerned with picture quality, backlight bleeding, and viewing angle. I want a widescreen monitor in the 20"-22" range, and preferrably a quality S-PVA panel or an S-IPS. I am open to suggestions anyone might have if you think there is a better monitor that meets my specifications.

as I said, I'm fairly confident I'll be ordering the Dell 2007WFP in the next few days, but I'm concerned about the mystery panel problem. I want the best panel they offer if I buy one, so is there a way to tell if I received the S-IPS? perhaps something on the box or the monitor?

yeah...I JUST noticed that, lol, so sorry

anyway, I guess I'm just interested if anyone has any suggestions for other monitors

Yea there is a way to tell what panel you have. Someone else will tell you since I don't know (I don't own one). It does sound like youre concerned about getting the s ips panel which is understandable. I think the 2007wfp s ips is very good considering the price and inputs. If you would like to hold out for a better monitor I'm sure a good 22" will come out.

the samsung 226b looks very nice. do you have 56K?? if not look at the last page of the lcd setups thread. that guy has two of them. but beware of the 20 gigantic pictures on that page.

yeah I was considering the samsung 226BW for awhile, but I think I'd like to get a better quality panel

yes the dell 2007wfp is the best for the price. and has the best ips panel....unless money doesnt matter and you could get the 20wmgx2....ooo what a wonderful display

lol, that price is a little high...

unless someone has a really good monitor they suggest that changes my mind, I'll probably order mine on monday or tuesday.

I'm wondering though, from where should I order it? should I order it from a retail chain (pricegrabber store), or should I order it from dells website? I ask because if I don't get the S-IPS panel, I'll likely return it and I want to return it as hassle-free as possible.

thanks

I can honestly say the 2007WFP (S-IPS version) is the best you will find for under $400. I can't comment on the S-PVA panels that a few people are reporting but it seems that most are getting the S-IPS even with the latest revision. I would order directly from Dell because if you have any issues within the first 21 days they will cross-ship a new monitor and pay for the return of the original one.

I just got 2 x Dell Ultrasharp 2007FP Rev A04 LCDs for work. Are these S-IPS versions?

No, only a very few early in the production run were S-IPS and now they are all S-PVA afaik. I think HP and maybe NEC are the only ones that still sell 20" non-widescreens with S-IPS panels.

I'm actually beginning to seriously consider buying the NEC 20" just because I don't want to go through the hassle of trying to get lucky with the S-IPS :\

its like $150 more, but damn, its a real nice monitor, plus I prefer the glossy screen anyway :p

Yeah, I doubt they are S-IPS. I notice at its native resolution, it's not as sharp as the text on my 19" WS Viewsonic. Still a good monitor though.

Maximus why not give the 2007WFP a shot? You have nothing to lose but a little bit of time, they even pay for shipping.

I also doubt you'll like the glossy screen once you actually use it. My HP laptop has one of those glossy screens and it's useless in any situation where there's sunlight. Not so with my Dells.

Anyway, to check your panel revision on 2007WFP:
1) Turn off the monitor
2) Hold down MENU and +
3) While holding these buttons down, power up the monitor
4) Once the monitor is powered on, release all three buttons and press the - key
5) You'll see a letter code at the top. RT803 means S-IPS, the other one (I believe PM330) means S-PVA
