I currently have my 3rd vx2025wm sitting on my desk. The first one had a sub pixel problem and the second seemed to have a leak between pixels, if thats even possible. I got it from bestbuy and both were easily returned anyways. The other day the dell went on sale in canada for 399 which is the exact same price I paid for the viewsonic. Since there were only a few hours left in the sale I figured I'd get it and then cancel if I decided I didn't want it. I'm hoping you guys can now help me out with that.

Right now I'm learning towards the 2007wfp and heres why:
The dell doesn't have the x pattern on the screen.
The dell has a better panel that with a supposedly quicker than stated response time (can you confirm this?)
Extra inputs on the dell, can hook up a console or whatever.
The dell also has a better stand.
I can notice the sparkly antiglare coating on the viewsonic, the dell doesn't have this correct?
Most people seem to be having a better time with exchanging dell monitors than with viewsonic.
I can't really think of something the viewsonic has over the dell other than maybe a faster response time. Also, I noticed ghosting on every one of the viewsonics I had, very minimal to be sure, but it was there.

And one last question. If I let the order go through, get the dell, then decide I like the viewsonic for some reason, will I be charged a 15% restocking fee and have to pay the return shipping on the dell? This is the only thing I really want to avoid, but the dell seems like it should be the better display.

So with price not being a concern, and I'm only looking at these two monitors, what do you think I should do? Please feel free to dispute any of the points I made above about the dell as I'm only going on what I know so far, and I have no way of seeing a dell monitor without buying it.

Thanks.

With almost 80 views I thought you guys would have something to say one way or the other?

Actually I was just looking at the dell forums and read this...

“...there is a really weird "crystal" effect which I guess is anti-glare but seems to do my eyes no good.”

Sound familiar :(

I guess the Dells have the coating problem too, not sure if it is quite as bad as the Viewsonic though. I guess the NEC looks like the only good option.

I think there is so few replies b/c this has been discussed over and over in this forum.

I have the Dell, so here is what I can tell you:

Ghosting - very minimal, playing games is enjoyable...behardware.com agrees with this, they rate this LCD close to a samsung 6ms panel.

Backlight bleed - it is there, but not horrible for me. I notice it when watching tv eps in the pitch dark only, basically.

Banding - with A02, vertical banding is *slightly* visible in desktop mode, banding in general is quite visible in any mode besides desktop...but you really don't need the other modes.

Exchanges - I already had to exchange one (I got A01 first and it had a backlight prob), exchanged it via a few emails to their customer service, basically no questions asked...got the replacement cross-shipped to me in just a few days.

Glare coating - Don't really know, I look at the monitor and don't see any wierd coating, so I'm assuming it doesn't have this.

I also don't think you need to pay the restocking fee if you return within the first 21 days, I could be wrong though.

Thanks for the reply MJCfromCT,

For the banding in other modes. I was under the impression that the other modes only adjusted colour and brightness settings. So then you should just stay in desktop and adjust them for yourself. Is that correct?

Did you have to pay for the return shipping for your exchange?

I hope you're right about the restocking fee. I would think as long as you had a problem that you didn't like with the monitor they wouldn't charge you the fee.

downpour:

Well I think I'm just going to let the dell get shipped and go from there. I'll set them both up next to each other and decide for myself.

The NEC isn't really an option for me because of the cost. And I don't think I'd like the glossy finish. I think I read somewhere that the dell has the same IPS panel as the NEC though?

I’m really interested to hear how the two compare side by side. I don’t think anyone’s been able to do that yet.

I wouldn’t rule out glossy screens. I was dead against them until I got the Viewsonic.
A friend of mine has a cheep TN panel with a glossy screen which I compared to my Viewsonic.

I couldn’t believe it. The viewing angles were so much better on his TN panel, and colours and gradients looked far smoother and crisper on the glossy screen just like my old CRT. I felt cheated after spending so much on the Viewsonic.

I do a lot of digital painting and this horrible ‘noise’ all over the screen is really bugging me. A white screen sparkles like its covered in tiny glitter.

If I had the choice again I think I would downgrade and go for the 19” NEC with the glossy screen, for less money.

One thing I have learnt from all this is not to be swayed over by peoples opinions. You can’t be sure if a display is any good until you see it for yourself. So many people on this forum said the Viewsonic was the best thing since sliced bread. But now I have it I personally believe it’s an overpriced piece of junk. :(

Finally got the dell in.

Before I continue though I have two quick concerns about it.

Firstly, the dell has some maybe serious backlight bleeding in the top left corner. I think I'm going to return it, do you agree?

And the second thing is that I noticed when viewing black colours from any angle except head on they start to turn a purplish colour. Has anyone else noticed this or should I also be returning it for that problem as well?

Heres some quick ghosting tests between the two monitors. They seem to be almost dead even. Or the dell might have a slight advantage

Viewsonic: (The first one was blurry so I took a second pic, but the second pic seems to show more ghosting.)

Thanks for the images. We need more posts like that. I am particularlly interested in colors on the Dell. I currently have the viewsonic and no matter how much I play with it the colors still seem very slightly off from what I am used to (Apple iMac builtin display).
