Dell 2007WFP / 2007FP questions

Hi.
I'm new here - i discovered this forum after following links from the Dell forum. I have done a lot of reading, and learned quite a bit. Anyway, I have a few questions about these monitors

First, I'll say that I'm replacing a pretty old Dell 1801FP (A00), which I'm pretty sure has an S-IPS panel. I have been really happy with that display, but it died...(doesn't power up). I have a TN panel for my kids, and I really don't like it. I figure that to ensure I'm happy, I should just get some type of IPS panel.

It seems like 20" is what I'm stuck with unless I want to spend >$1k, which I don't.

From reading the "Dell Lottery" thread, it seems that both the 2007WFP, and the 2007FP are shipping with the S-IPS panel now.

My first question is about pricing - I haven't followed the pricing on the Dell site for very long: right now, the WFP is $399 (no sale), and the FP is $394 (on sale: $439-$45).

what are the best prices I might expect dell to have for these monitors over a period of a few weeks?

Does the wide model ever go on sale?

My second question: the main reason I'm considering the standard aspect is if I get one, and like it, I may put two of them together. I figure I'd have a lot of S-IPS real estate for ~$800..., more than if I just got the NEC 24" IPS panel, which is ~$1200.

Any comments about 2X20" vs 1X24"? has anybody tried 2X20", and hated it so much that they just got a bigger display?

I should mention that my main use is GIS (digital mapping) - I need to look at fine detail closely for a long time. Accurate color reproduction is important, but maybe not as important as for photography work.

I don't do games, which i imagine would suck with 2 monitors.

One more thing. it sounds like this "True Color" might bug me. As far as i can tell, these monitors don't have this "feature". Is that correct?

thanks.

Yes, the 2007s do not have True Color (wide gamut).

Two things that you may want to keep in mind when buying either of these monitors is that they have an intrusive and "sparkly" anti-glare coating on them (though it may not be any worse than the 1801FP you were using) and a tendency to flicker almost like a CRT when displaying certain colors at lower brightness levels -- it's most prominent on light gray and blue. There's a long thread on the Dell community forums about the flickering here but Dell is refusing to acknowledge it as an issue.

If none of that bothers you, they're both good monitors if you win the panel lottery. The NEC is a higher quality display, but it'd be more expensive and would offer less total screen real estate than dual 20" monitors as you said.

I can give you some of my personal insight on the 2007WFP since I own one. The anti-glare coating is a little problem with me. I have 4 big windows behind my desk and during the day I can see the glare on the monitor. However, it only shows on dark backgrounds.

As for the flickering, I have noticed it too, mainly on greys and purples. Somehow it only flickering on the right 1/3 side of the screen. It seems setting the brightness below 50 causes it to increase and be more noticable.
