Dell 2007FPW Flicker Issue

Hey guys,

I briefly mentioned this in the Dell panel display discussion, but would like some further information.

Just received my Rev03 2007FPW yesterday. Immediately after setting it up, I noticed something a bit disturbing. Anytime there was a dark, solid color on the screen (my wallpaper had lots of black in it), there was a horrible flicker noticeable. I'm usually very susceptible to things like this, but even my wife and sister were able to notice.

Obviously, it shouldn't be doing this, and I've arranged for a replacement. My question though I suppose is this: Is this a common problem with these displays? I mean, it shouldn't be doing this, correct? FWIW, I'm almost certain that I also experience the color banding issues when in Gaming or Multimedia mode. In addition, I also own a 2005FPW that does not experience this "flicker".

Thoughts? Ideas?

What kind of panel does your 2007WFP (or have you not investigated that yet?). Mine's a REVA02 and I've never noticed any flickering. Dark colours (including black) and rich and deep, and I don't see anything flicking.

I was just able to get home and check--it is a RT803 panel, which I believes indicates S-IPS.

Hmm strange... What does the flickering look like exactly??? Can you explain it a bit more? I mean I'm pretty sure whatever it is I'm not getting it but.. It's still easier to check if I know.

And what are your settings? Brightness? Desktop mode (or otherwise)? DVI or VGA? ect ect.

*Edit: On second thought it's definitely your monitor, so you should expect flicker-free from the new one you'll be receiving.

Also to give you some information on Gaming and Multimedia modes, they use this "enhancing dcdi" or something like that. And it causes the banding issue. Prior to A01/A02 Desktop mode also featured it, but after complaints they turned it off for Desktop and that's why the other two modes have so much banding.
