My employer will buy either one of these displays for me. Which display should I choose? They both seem to be great monitors. I mainly do programming and web development, so I need a monitor with good text clarity and decent color reproduction. So, which is the best choice 2007FP or VP2030b? I prefer the 20" 4:3 monitors over the 16:9. Thanks...

The monitors I have to pick from are the Dell 2007FP and 2007WFP, Viewsonic vp2030b and vx2025, some Planar 20.1" 4:3, and Samsung 204B. Since I really don't want a widescreen as I prefer the extra height on a 4:3 so that I can see more lines of code, that pretty much leaves the Dell 2007FP, Viewsonic vp2030b, or the Samsung 204b. From reviews it appears the Dell and Viewsonic are better than the Samsung. I have a Dell 2001FP at home and love that monitor, but I hear the 2007FP suffers from banding on gradients. Any more thoughts?

Well your 2001FP is probably a S-IPS screen with great viewing angles. If you get a 2007fp you will likely get a S-PVA with terrible viewing angle. I know because I bought one and got rid of it. I would rather have a TN screen than a PVA/MVA(2007fp/2030) screen after this experience. Banding is fixed now on A02 models.

I prefer 1600x1200 as well. But I will only buy a S-IPS screen now. Hard to find a good cheaper S-IPS. Some people think the HP is S-IPS.

Thanks for the replies Snowdog....I went for the 2007FP since my employer has a contract with Dell. Let the lottery begin....I hope I get the S-IPS panel. I'll post back when it comes in. Thanks...

Please do. If I could be assured of getting S-IPS I would by one in a heartbeat.
