I have a Dell 2005fpw widescreen lcd, and 2x 7800gts. All the video I play flickers, as in it has lines across the image that cause it to flicker. Ive hooked up a crt to it, and it still flickers. I tried the video on my brothers mac mini, and it is flicker free.

What codec is (are) the file(s) you are trying to play? What are you using to decode them (Windows Media Player, QuickTime, Winamp, VLC, etc)?

Did you try updating your graphics card drivers?

Like saltiness said, it's not the monitor's fault at all.

I have the latest nvidia drivers, and the video is from everything I play. Nothing goes without flicker, so all codecs cause the problem.

Im dling the ffdshow now and will post if anything gets better, or if it doesnt help at all.

It had no effect on the flickering video. Everything still flickers. I hate this cause I watch my iptv shows everyday, and the video is annoying me with the flicker.

I use vlc and itunes all the time. The fact is that ALL video flickers on my pc, and its very annoying.

Only one dvi out port gives a display (i have sli) and ive had the flickering issue since i built the pc and the drivers were at 81.something and ive updated everytime theres a new driver.

No, but I dont have another video card to try, other than my other 7800gt, but both cause the problem.

Any other PC's in the house (with a PCI-E slot that is)? If so take the 7800 (one of them) and try it in there.

Maybe try removing 1 video card from the time being and see if the issues clear up?

Could it be a bad/insufficent power supply? Any problems while playing FPS games? <-- I have had that happen to me before.

I dont have any other pci-e equipped pcs in the house. I will try removing one card, and i have a 600w sli certified psu. When I play FPS games, the graphics also slightly flicker.

Try one card. If the problem doesnt clear up, then try the other. If that doesnt work well try and take it from there.

Also, who makes the 600 watt PSU?

I will post back in an hour once I try one card. The psu is an ultra x-finity.
Im using the 60hz refresh rate.

For piece of mind, I have had two Ultra power supplies go bad on me. They were both used in different systems. One was a 600 watt and the other a 400 watt. What you really need is an oscilloscope to see if the power output is dirty or not. However, at the same time, the problem may not have to do with the PSU. At least we can try and rule everything else out first.

Ok, i finally got around to testing both cards. And it turns out that both cards, when plugged in one at at time, both show flickering. So, am i out of luck?

Hmm if this occurs on both of your cards, then I doubt it is the cards.

As I mentioned above it could be a number of things. It could even be the fact that you do not have configured properly in your OS [ie, the refresh rate is not set properly]. The first thing that you could try [or I shgould say the easiest], is to reinstall nVidia's forceware drivers. MAKE SURE TO USE DRIVER CLEANER AFTER THE INSTALL IS FINISHED. Let us know if you have tried that allready.

Next make sure that your LCD is set to 75Hz.
Oh, also all the way back yp at the top if this thread you mentioned that you tried the video on your brother's mac mini, and it is flicker free. Do you mean that you have tried the 2005FPW on the mini? If so, did you use a VGA or DVI cable? If you used the VGA, and are using the DVI on your 7800's it could also be a bad DVI cable. Try using the VGA cable with the 7800's and see what happens.

Lastly, as a last resort, If you have one- try a different power supply. If I remeber correctly, your 7800's should have come with a dongle (to adapt 2 molex connectors to a PCI-E power adapter). Using just one card (take the other one out for now), take a PSU and try it in your computer.

Don't give up yet. Its probably something simple!

I highly doubt that you have 2 defective 7800's, but there is always that small possibility. From what it sounds like- that is not the problem.

I set my Lcd at 75hz (it was actually running at 60hz) but it fixed nothing. What I meant was that I hooked up a crt to my pc and the video still flickered. I also tried the same video files on my brothers mini and they were fine. So it cant be the monitor, it must be software related (since I tried both 7800gts). Any more suggestions?

Allright, a few questions:

When you mean the video flickers do you mean during playback (IE, when your computer is idling at the desktop there us no flicker)? Or does it always flicker?

If it flickers during playback it probably is an issue with a codec.

Also, let me know what kind of video you are trying to playback (IE MPEG, DIVX, DVD, Etc.).

Have you tried a different media player?

Try www.videolan.org - as an alternative media player.

Well take it from there.
