Dell 2005FPW = headache

so i recieved my Dell Ultrasharp 2005FPW on Friday, and i only have a few things to gripe about.

It seems to only display 60 hertz signals. If i go down to a lower resolution and up the hertz to 75, everything gets blurry. The problem is that computer use at 60 hertz gives me a headache. If i stop and rest every 40-50 minutes i should be ok, but it still hurts.

eff that, do any of you know of anything i can do? I am currently playing Half Life 2 native widescreen resolutions (???? x 1050), looks beautiful but like i said, hurts...

i cannot remember the second thing that bugs me, but hopefully i'll remember as the day goes by...
 
All LCD's are 60hz. And the refresh rate doesn't matter because the display is constant. It's not like a CRT where the refesh rate indicated how many times the screen is being painted. It's just the frequency at which the lcd is recieving signals from the PC. Are you sure it's not just too bright? I have issue's with brightness. I tend to set all my LCD's to the minimum brightness in my house because it's dimly lit.

ok i'll try the color thing, and, is it possible my mind is having issues with the widescreen-ness of it all?

yes - stop fighting it. Relax and know that there is no strobe effect at all. You will hate going back to a CRT once you get used to it.
 
i've been hooked onto this monitor ever since the first day i received it going from a 17inch flat screen and it blew it away not to mention my old 17inch did blow up :p

i looked at the settings, and maybe its just because im new to LCD's but where do i go to change the brightness/contrast?
 
the buttons on the lower right hand corner on the monitor of course, just mess around and youll find the brightness settings
 
Um, the headaches you get from CRTs being 60hz comes from the flickering. LCDs don't flicker. Either there's something seriously wrong with your monitor, or you've been imagining things.
 
Well, according to World of Warcraft I've been looking at my 2005FPW for about 34 days over the last 6 months, or 864 hours, and I haven't had any issues. The 60 hertz thing threw me at first too.
 
Agreed, I had a headache as well for the first few times I used it, but I had to get used to the widescreen aspect, as well as changing the brightness settings. Sometimes, overstimulation from game-playing (HL2, WoW, CS:S, FarCry) or any other activity on the monitor can create a headache. My headache today was actually from spending 4 hours on the phone with dell to try to get them to upgrade me to a 2405FPW, but they won't because they can't exchange for a different product. So that blows.
 
I have had something of a simliar issue since switching to LCD's. Slow moving games like EQ2 and Guild Wars don't bother me but Half Life 2 and GTA: SA make me wish for an air-sickness bag after a while. This is on both a 2001fp and a 2005 fp. I am thinking about getting a Sony GDM FW900 and seeing if that will help me. I just can't go back to 4:3 and unless anyone else knows of another CRT widescreen PC monitor, that is my only hope. :)

Compared to CRTs, LCDs are wayyyy brighter. That is why you are getting headaches.....and the smaller text doesn't help either. You can turn the brightness down some but if you take it down too much you compromise the color palette. They give me headaches to so I just returned the thing (Dell) and got a very nice CRT. Whatever you do, don't try to fight through it if you can't get used to it....get rid of it. No sense in mucking up your health just cause you want an LCD to work for you.
