Dell 2005 or 2405?

I'm getting rid of my current LCD monitor to get a widescreen one. My current monitor is a Samsung 912n 19".

Now I've been reading posts reviews everything I can on the 2005 and 2405 from Dell. The majority say to get the 2005 as its best for gaming which is what I'd be using it for. But then it seems the 2405 is also a good candidate too.

My major concern is I'm in Canada and it seems Dell wants a second mortgage on these monitors too. the 2005 is reasonable and what I was planning on spending) but the 2405 is almost a $700 difference

With that type of price gap is the 2405 really worth it over the 2005?

Also in 4:3 mode (if I have to use 4:3 for certain games) what would its resolution be for the 2005? basically in 4:3 mode what monitor size is it equivelant to?


I guess I just really want to know if the 2405 is worth the price or if the 2005 will fit my needs perfectly? Also does Dell Canada ever have deals that the Dell USA site have? Be nice to save some money if they do.

Oh and if it's relevant system specs are

Intel P4 3.6 GHz
OCZ 2GB 5400 Ram
MSI Geforce 7800gtx x2 Sli Configuration

Having 2x 7800GTX's in SLI makes the Dell 2405FPW worthwhile ... you will get playable rates at 1920x1200 with eye candy turned on

There's nothing like having more pixels.

I originally had a Dell 2005FPW since the 2405FPW is so expensive in UK. Dell UK don't usually do deals but when I called up they did a 50% off on second monitor and I got 2 x 2405FPW's

So maybe Dell Canada will do them as well, there's no harm in calling and talking

1600x1200 @ 20 inch for 4:3 which you cannot do because the y res is 1200 instead of 1050

yup, some game i can actually play it w/ native res on 2405fpw, but w/ new games coming out and some modern games, i actually use 16x12 4:3 res.

so ya, if you want to use native res on 2405fpw all the time, i'm assuming you need at least 2x7800gtx.

1400x1050 is the 4:3 resolution the 2005fpw will show with black bars on the sides.

A $700 difference wouldn't do anything for me...I'd get the 2005fpw and be done with it unless you had the spare money to do the 2405fpw. I might be biased because I own two of them but that's neither here nor there.

I own the 2005 and play alot of FPS games, I absolutely love it. There is no reason to play any game at 4:3 resolution. If a game doesn't support widescreen from the in-game menus, then there is usually a config file that can be editted to force the game into 1680X1050
but most new games support widescreen now. Visit widescreengamingforums.com to find a fix if your game doesn't officially support widescreen.

Just be advised that the 2405FPW scales really well! I only have 1 7800GTX, but I am able to play BF2 @ 1920x1200 w/playable framerate, but only with 2x AA. If I want to bump it up to 4x AA, I lower the resolution to 1680x1050, and even with the monitor set to "fill" mode, I'm hard pressed to discern any degradation with the graphics.
