Dell 2001FP LCD turning "black"

I have a problem with my Dell 2001FP. Every now and then it will just turn completely black for 2 seconds and then go back to normal. It looks exactly as if you turn it off...that kind of black. Sometimes it does it twice or three times in succession. Each time it turns black, it's black for about 2 seconds. You can't do anything. Moving the mouse won't do anything.

I experienced this lately with my bro's older Dell 2000FP(think that's the name).

WTF is the problem? It's getting quite annoying. I've only had my monitor for maybe 2 or 3 months. It's flawless(no dead pixesl or uneven lighting) 'cept for the weird blackness every now and again.

Make sure the video cables are well connected on both ends.
 
sounds like it's your video card - it's too fast

and not like "da shit son" more like shit that you poop out ...
 
dells are good. i once removed over 3000 peices of spyware from a dell (and gave a subsequent lecture on the virtues of ad-aware). it's a testament to the engineering of that comp that it even booted up, let alone functioned properly (well... right up until it tried to connect to its dsl line. you can guess what happened then.)

Uh, not quite sure what spyware has to do with the hardware inside a system, let alone the engineering of a Dell. I think Dell makes some really crappy products and has even worse support. Try another monitor; if the problem poofs, I'd try RMA'ing the LCD asap.
 
I’ve run into problems similar to this on several computers in the past few months, all new (under 6 months). In ever case it turned out to be a compatibility issue with the video cards and something on the motherboard, or in software.

In each case I carefully removed all the drivers, cleaned the registry etc. then did a full re-install of the video system and in each case the problem persisted.

By several I mean 5 computers, 3 Dell’s 2 HP’s. All purchased with their respective manufactures LCD monitors. The first one was an HP with the gforce card and out of desperation I popped in a new ATI and bingo no more problems. Got to the next lady’s house and figured I’d just put a new card in, but just for S’s and grins I popped in the gforce card from the HP at the previous persons house. Again, bingo, problems solved. Simply switching cards and properly re-installing the software solved four of the 5 problems. What makes all this more interesting is these were factory built systems that had all already had the video cards replaced by each respective company. The last system really did have a bad card and windows was pooched as well.

These video cards were various manufactures of nVidia all close to the same but slightly different layout and parts wise, all 128 megs. In the end I went back to the first person’s house and put the leftover nVidia card in that machine and it worked. That person had already decided to keep the ATI card because they liked the color better which was fine, but it’s an odd situation. I put the leftover card in a system of mine and it seems to work fine.

I guess that just a long version of “shit happens”, but sometimes it really does. I did have an issue with one of my machines using an AIW card and “guide plus”. Every once and a while if I used guide plus the video shut on and off randomly and endlessly. Took three installs of different drivers to fix it, but it’s fixed.

I’m doubting it’s your monitor.
