Dell 1905FP Flickering

I got a new the 1905FP (not refurbished), installed the drivers and am noticing a subtle flickering. I have it connected to the DVI-D. I've set the background to different colours and noticed that the flickering is more noticable when set to red. I am using Win XP Pro, 128MB ATI X800 SE card (w/ current drivers).

Is the flickering normal with all LCD's? Is this due to the 800:1 contrast ratio and 20ms response time?
 
Maybe it has something to do with the blanking/general timing in your videocard config? My first guess would be to check the connections, and see if connecting thru VGA will solve it (thereby framing your DVI port as the bad guy)
 
Well I just received the same monitor about a week ago and don't notice your flickering issue. I'm running it off of a Nvidia GeForce FX5500 video card. I currently am comparing it against the Samsung Syncmaster 930B. Since I'm not a big gamer I seem to be leaning toward the 1905FP because of it's clarity and better color balance.
 
i think their is an issue with all ati cards, Dvi frequency has to be reduced ...

read about it, it could be it, their is an option in ati control panel named reduce dvi frequencey, check it.... i think it could help
 
I connected the VGA and got the same results. I also tried selecting Reduce DVI on high-resolution displays... there was no change. I can still see the flickering.

I contacted Dell support and they're sending a new replacement.

Hopefully it will work better than this one.
 
Has anyone using one of the new Dell monitors experienced this problem before? According to their tech support, I am the first to report this problem.
 
Is it being caused by an iffy signal, bad synch, or the backlight?
 
Maybe it's the backlight. I noticed the colours were slightly washed out on the bottom left corner. I'm not sure about the signal... don't know how to test. I'm using the DVI cable that came with the monitor.
 
If you've tried both the DVI and VGA inputs and seen the same issue, I think you can eliminate the signal and synch.

Do you notice the problem when nothing is connected to the monitor and it's showing a menu or its diagnostic screen?
 
I tried both DVI and VGA inputs... same issue. I also saw it with both cables unplugged with the diagnostics.
 
Sounds like the unit itself, then. I've got the same LCD hooked up to ATI cards, and I switch between the VGA and DVI on an hourly basis. Never a flicker.

Then I think you'd better call Dell.

"Flickering" isn't enough to make a diagnosis at a distance, so either you have poor synch or a dodgy backlight.

If the monitor has lots of jitter in its timing, it won't synch to your signal well. It'll go out of synch quickly, then come back, and this can cause the display to blank for very brief periods.

If the backlight is intermittently going in and out, you'll notice the visual effects quite readily.

Since you're not going to fix it yourself, the exact cause is irrelevant. But you can be sure it's the panel, so I'd get on the horn to Dell to see what they can do.
