I'm growing more and more interested in the idea of delidding a processor and getting the experience of how to do it. I currently have a 3570k and would like to practice on this CPU rather than a new one before upgrading, probably to an 8700k if the new 9th gen isn't coming any time soon ( or reasonably available). Does the Rockit 88 delid tool work for both of these processors or would I have to get a separate delid tool for each?
Rockit cool sells a kit for the 1155 socket, which the 3570k is, which includes the delid tool and a copper IHS for $46. Does that seem overpriced? Is the copper IHS worth it?
Are the relidding tools worth anything or is it more common to just let the socket hold the IHS in place?
