Deleting free space?

Ok, I just installed another HD, and installed windows onto it. My old HD was split into 3 partitions, 1 w/ windows installed on it, a primary partition, and an extended partition of the windows partition. So i kept the primary partition, and then i deleted those other 2 partitions. I wanted to stop them from being an extended partition, i saw the option in Disk Manager to "delete free space" thinking in my head this might solve my problem. Well it didn't, it really seems to delete the free space cause i can't find anyway to create a new partition w/ the ~60gb that is there. Anyone know what I can do? thanks a lot
 
Your post is not making a lot of sense. Do you want to make 3 partitions into 1 partition? If so I know something like partition magic would do it not sure of the free alternatives.

If that is wrong try to summarize what you mean in a single sentance to be more clear
 
I think what he meant was that he deleted 2 of the three partitions with the plan of creating one single partition from the newly unformatted space afterwards. But now he's not seeing any unformatted space on the drive to create a new partition on, even though the free space should be there.


I have no idea why this would happen though...
 
Thanks for the help but it couldn't expand the drive at all. I tried using partition magic, and it didn't see anymore space on the drive. I'll try to reiterate what the problem is;
After I deleted my old windows partition, there was the free space visible in Disk Management. Don't ask me what i was thinking b/c i have no idea right now, but there's the free space listed on the partition. I right clicked and the option was there to "Delete Free Space." I clicked it, and poof. 60gb gone. I mean i didn't literally think it would DELETE it as in never see it again. There isn't a damn thing that i can find that allows me to see any more than ~120gb on the normally 200gb drive.

RClick unallocated space if there is any and select create partition format it and you will have recovered the space

however if you want to grow a system partition and still keep it a basic disk (which Id highly recommend) youll need either Partition Magic or to install the OS to another drive to employ diskpart

alternately you can mount the new NTFS volume (partition) as a folder in the primary partition
Id ask why you need a single partition

if there is no unallocated space, youll likely need to start over with a zero fill utility and a diagnostic checkup

did you by chance delete the extended partition before you deleted the logical drive that was in it?
