The gpu was afraid. :)

Try disabling sound blaster to check. Probably their curse. Old SB hardware + Creative support + New game = No soup for you. :(

I think its just an issue with the game. I can sometimes play for hours without issue, but a lot of times the game will just plain crash on me. I can start right up again and play, but I think this is a known issue. Now not sure if its related to your issue, but I think some bugs are still being worked out on it.

I've never had FEAR crash on me, and I've been playing it since it came out... (multiplayer and single player)

I would just format and reinstall. It seems that is almost mandatory Windows maintenence. At least it would help to rule out any funky software issues.

On a side note, I would hate to run FEAR with only 1gb of ram and a 9600.

theres almost no point in running fear on a 9600, itl be UNGODLY slow, you could try reformat and reinstall, might be a problem with windows 64, i would just take unneeded junk out, if u need to might wanna reinstall.... specially try reinstalling fear combat

I played F.E.A.R. on my mom's 9800SE, which is about as good as a 9600XT. It wasn't that slow, you just need to run it at 800x600 with medium settings.

I would rather eat poo then play at that resolution.

Not really, it wouldn't be ungodly slow. I've seen my friend playing FEAR Combat with us at his apartment just fine on a Dell P4 2.66GHz, 1GB and 9600XT. It was actually smooth for him and the graphics were nice.

LOL, it's not that bad. Xbox 360 is the first game console that displays anything past 640x480, would you rather eat poo than play on a console?

Yes.

XP64 sucks anyway. It's still not mature, it's better to just stick to 32-bit, just forget about 64-bit XP. It... just isn't mature yet. It probably never will be haha!

Let the guy decide what's acceptable re's and performance. He is ALREADY happy with it, it seems besides the crashing. So what's the point of telling him it will run too slow? He disagrees with your performance and res sentiments. Probably judging by how it plays on your own hardware and if high end, never even really tried what the "get by" settings might be. I said the gpu was afraid for a joke but serious comments about the res and stuff seem off base.
