I've noticed recently some members are deleting the content of their posts after their issue is resolved. Examples:

https://hardforum.com/threads/2037669/
https://hardforum.com/threads/2039008/

This kindof mangles the forum view, and it ruins any potential for people to read through the question and solution, making it far more likely the same questions get posted over and over.

Just a suggestion - leave your posts so they can remain a resource.

Ever been to Reddit? While I agree it’s not helpful I do respect the decision to let members delete their own posts vs reporting and requesting it be removed.

I’m so sorry about that. I am considering leaving the forum due to how toxic it has become. Sad that it has come to this after 19 wonderful years. I love the forum but I do not feel it is being well moderated. Lately I regret my posts and the vitriol they inspire in others. I used to think of myself as a kind of discussion leader, but lately I feel more like a relic from another more civilized time. I no longer recognize this place.
No worries, it just seemed like there might have been some useful info in there. Totally up to you, and I get it if you thought the best decision was to remove it.

I think the point was that they shouldn't delete their posts, because they might help someone having the same question later, not whether they delete it themselves or ask help.

And I think the same goes for locking your own threads, that prevents follow up questions from being asked. Just because you are done with a topic shouldn't mean you lock up and throw away the key!

One of the things I like about [H]ardForum is it's not Reddit. 🤷‍♂️

Agree it's up to the user. It's just annoying.

I 1000% agree which is why I don’t use Reddit. But searches take me there for answers ever since googles demise, and I’ve noticed that all the time. So many times the OP is deleted. Makes zero sense.

But, having some control over your own user generated content is nice.

I think locking keeps people from necro'ing really old posts. But it's true that it's so hard to get information sometimes and now many things are on videos which is more time consuming to find out something.

Every good thing comes to an end, even Reddit or [H]

Sometimes necros are eventful and helpful tho. I’ve been surprised by some threads that have gone on 15+ years updated with information and or new questions about old hardware.

I agree with you that there is no good reason to delete an OP or lock a thread. Who cares if it gets necrod? Such a weird take.

Why is this such an issue that it must be avoided at all costs? There is no harm done.
i just think theyre funny, not "an issue". i also didnt write the rules:
(28) Thread NECRO-ING is not allowed unless specific to the old thread and necessary. Mods will determine what is necro-ing and what is not.

Appeal to authority is not an argument. If there is a specific reason why is it not allowed like it stresses the database, I could understand that as an explanation. Otherwise it seems like just an unnecessary rule for the sake of it.
