About 1 week a bout an error started to appear every time i was trying to copy something on my hd.The error message is following :
http://www.pctech.gr/viewthread.php?action=attachment&tid=19317&pid=204850

A lot of people told me that my hd is a bout to fail.

I have done, scandisk, defragments, western digital diagnostics. No errors, no bad sectors.

I read on microsoft that it could be the cables , instead of 80 to use 40 wire cables. I never changed the cables so this is not for 100% the problem.

I tried several things. Like:

1)Disabling "Allow Indexiing Service to index this disk for fast file searching".

2)I also enabled and disabled from registry: LargeSystemCache , but still the
messages were appearing.

3)I did a scandisk, and also the diagnostic tools from West. Dig. but didn't show
any error or but sectors on the disk

4)Enabled/disabled Direct Memory Access

5)Checked the IDE cables . Actually the cables CANNOT be cause i did never change
them, or pluged them out

6)Reinstalled SP4

7) Reinstalled windows 2000 prf

8)To finish a diagnostic test from DOS (Did it just under windows)

My disks options look like that:

http://www.pctech.gr/viewthread.php?action=attachment&tid=19317&pid=205106

and the second one:

http://www.pctech.gr/viewthread.php?action=attachment&tid=19317&pid=205115

Now some things about my system.

I am using Windows 2000 Prof. with SP4
Intel P4 2.66ghz
Asus Pt533 Mobo
2x256 Rdram Samsung
1x80gb WD
1x160gb WD

Both are ata-100

My windows are isntalled on the 80gb one, the one who has the problem is the 160gb disk.

I use ntfs on the 160gb disk , and its just 1 partition.

The error appeared from nothing actually. i cant remember installing something that could cause that. The problem is i cant format the disk cause i have about 100gb on it that i am not able to back up because i dont have another disk with so much capacity.

Also direct memory Access is enabled

Do you suggest anything that i could try ? Do you think that reinstalling windows would help ? Is there any fix available about it?
Could it be my hardware or software? what does the error seem to be ?

The official MSKB entry is this one, but it doesn't cover everything. I've seen delayed write failed errors caused by everything from using FAT32 with NT/2k/XP to flaky controllers and drivers. You've tried most of the base solutions so far, so I'd suggest a new driver, then a new controller next. It is not a death sentence for your drive.
