I tried posting this in the PSU forum but figured someone here might have more experience with establishing a set-up along these lines.

I'm trying to figure out a way to run two PSUs on my watercooling rig, I'd like to have both start up with a single power-on switch but here's the kicker - I'd like one to start 5 seconds before the other.

Basically, the "secondary" PSU will be connected to the watercooling loops (controllers, fans, and non-system devices). The "primary" will be dedicated to the system.

Since I'm overclocking, I'd like the water to start flowing before the CPU and GPU wake-up.

Someone on the PSU forum suggested building something using a capacitor or 555 timer relay but I'd rather find a ready-made solution. It seems like this should be something someone else has thought of in the past... any suggestions?

I've seen relays that keep a HSU fan turning after power-down, is there anything along those lines but in reverse?
 
while i cannot help with a premade solution, i would like to ask you to reconsider this before you go out and waste your money.

many people water cool(and OC) on older, and hotter chips and having the water run 1st is rarely(if ever) done. The reason? people dont want to waste money on an unnessesary addition to their computer. the chip doesnt instantly heat up to extreme temps, and if it did, it doesnt matter, the instant the water starts going it gets cooled by the radiator and starts working


if you're set on this..good for you, i guess? it is your money and you can do with it what you want, but you should reconsider before you go wasting your money!
 
I figured it would be a better idea since I'll be running two WC loops, SLI, and RAID'ed HDDs.

I've got an older PCP&C PSU that I planned to use for the system componenets and a stack of still-older 350w Enermax PSUs already laying around the house. Figured some sort of relay would be cheaper than buying a new PSU and thought taking the WC pumps, fans, controllers, etc (as well as the silly cathodes) off the system's PSU would help with stability and "clean" power.

Then again, if I don't have to worry about the initial start-up maybe I'll just wire both to start together.
