hiya.

i bought my p4 3.0c back in late december and it was super coolbeans

i have it in my shuttle st61g4

at the time, i was using onboard graphics. i was curious as to what i would score in benchmarks, so i ran aquamark3 and i scored around 10,000 , because my cpu score was right around 10,000 and my gfx score was crap.

then i had "upgraded" (via free hand me down from my brother) to an fx5200 and figured i would get a higher score because it is a dedicated add-in card. i got a lower score than before because while the gfx score was actualy lower (about 900), the cpu score was also lower (like 8000).

now, i just got my x800xt in yesterday, so i figured i would run aquamark 3 one more time to see what i get, and i scored like 53,000.

i was thinking i would get higher for some reason?

my gfx score was around 9,500, but my cpu score had dropped to like ~6,000

what is the dealio? I have also noticed my cpu has been running progressively hotter. when i got it ran about 32~34 idle, and now its running like 49~52 idle

LOL

HAHAHA

FX5200 is Crap. Worst Card Ever. Period. But you didnt know that so its all good. Logically you were thinking right, it should be better than onboard. But its so shitty. lol

I dont know about the CPU score though.... thats a good question. Do you have HT on?

Idle temps don't matter.Full load is what's important.

If you reach 67C or more in full load it means the chip is throttling ( inserting idle cycles in the pipeline ) so you should check the cooling. ( you should clean the TIM and reapply some quality thermal paste ).

of course i knew the fx5200 is the worst card ever

it is still better than the onboard. thats why i said "upgraded"
i do more than just game, so the dedicated memory really helped out in apps like 3dsmax (even though still sucked)

and yes HT is enabled.

also, i havent changed the heatsink (ICE on shuttles) at all since originally seating it. I did buy some thermal paste from fry's when i bought my cpu, but i ended up using the stuff that came with my shuttle when i installed it.

How do you clean the thermal plate and what not?

update i just played counter-strike (not source) for about 1 hour and the highest any temps ever got was 63C according to speedfan.

first of all, i don't know which temp this was and it very well may have been my video card (cuz speedfan just says temp1 temp2 blabla no labels)

also, how can i know which temp is which?

Download a Program called "Throttlewatch" and run it while you are Maxinig out your system.

It will monitor if your CPU is thermal throttleing back, reducing performance.

ok i did as you said and then i ran 3dmark05

it didnt report any throttling (clock speed stayed the same)

and also my score was only like 4800. i figured it would be a bit higher than that but maybe not?

cpu score was 2200 about

edit: ran it again and

5187

cpu: 3055

are these things totally random or no?
