I have a WD 120gb hd, divided into two partitions. One 30gb partition for my programs and stuff, and the other 80gb for data and stuff. ( the other 10 just isnt there..i remember someone told me before, but i forgot, so why is that again?) anyways, i wanted to defrag, so i opened the disk defragmenter and started the 30 gig partition. It worked fine. I then started the 80 gig partition, but after about a second of analyzing, it says :
"Defragmentation of (F
has been aborted due to inconsistencies that were detected in the file system. Please run CHKDSK or SCANDISK on (F
to repair these inconsistencies, then run Disk Defragmenter again."
i had absolutely no idea what it meant, but i decided to dry doing start>run>CHKDSK, and luckly it worked. But i only got something that said it was doing stages 1 of 3, 2 of 3, and 3 of 3. After that, the window just closed, and nothing happened. I still couldnt deframent, so i tried putting in SCANDISK, but it didnt work. How do i run SCANDISK on (F
? and will my files still be there after whatever it does?
