Defrag headaches

I use my computer a lot, have moved a lot of stuff around, installed programs, etc. My C Drive was like 75% fragmented, and after repetitive scans, is down to 30%. The problem is that Diskeeper will no longer defrag the drive - it fixes one file, and then ends. What can I do?

Some files may not be able to be defragmented. What files are they?

"Try PerfectDisk" is the best advice you're going to get. Well, actually, the best advice you're going to get is: move some data off that drive before you try PerfectDisk, give it some "room to breathe," so to speak.

When a hard drive partition approaches or passes the 85% full mark, it's going to cause some rather drastic performance issues, and in fact it'll hamper your efforts to defragment it if the fragmentation levels gets excessively high. 75% fragmentation? I'm surprised you could even boot the thing. :) Just kidding, but that was exactly that: excessive in a major way.

Some files are in use while Windows is in operation, so they're "locked" and can't be accessed by anything except the OS itself. That's normal, nothing to fear there. But even so, PerfectDisk will eat Diskeeper alive, seriously.

Worth checking out if you haven't, and highly recommended.

Hope this helps...
