Defective HD or bad OS install?

I bought a brand new 80gb drive to install vista on. I had 2 other drives hooked up at the time, a 500gb and a 160. Vista Home Pre installed fine on the 80 but after rebooting for the last time it stayed on a blinking top left corner cursor. I tried Vista business as well and when that failed to boot on the last time, I unhooked my 2 other drives incase they were the cause. Same thing though, install Vista, reboot, and blinking cursor. So even though it installs fine, could it be the drive that's defective? or something else? OS?

doubtful it's the drive's foult, check the rest of your components (mobo ram etc)

If you were able to load the OS most likely its a boot issue are you sure you have the right boot options set in BIOS?
