Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm seeing loads of problems that people have with the high spec ati cards. My own 9800 256 packed up within 6 months with problems of corrupted graphics and many other people had the exact same problem with their 9800's and x800's. Seems something is up with ATi? My brand was sapphire also... I was tempted to go for another ATi but these stories have put me off. Seems wither the PCB's are ultra sensitive to even minor scratches/exposure or the memory seems to go bad. Either way they seem to have problems...

btw- In a few posts alone on another site several people reported the exact same problem which was more than just a coincidence...

I've owned ATi cards for the past 5 or 6 years, and I've never, never, had any of these mentioned problems. Also, I haven't seen any problems liek what you've mentioned. Mostly, around here I see 6600GT fans failing.
I lost 4 9700 pro cards. All built by ATI. 3 RMAs.
Lost a 9800 pro card as well (ATI).
Only lost 1 5800 Ultra card (Gainward), after watercooling it.
None of them were ever OCed.
All were with the same motherboard. Giga-byte dual-everything bullshit.
I never blamed ATI for crappy cards. I blamed Giga-byte ands its fruitcake looking motherboards.

Go to a different forum and you'll probably find posts along the same lines in regards to nvidia cards as well. For what it's worth my AIW 128, my 9600XT, 9700pro and X800pro are all running fine no problems. And so is my GF2mx, GF3 ti200, 4600 and 6800GT. I don't currently have all the cards here and running but they are all still in service today in friends and families computers.
Remember that we are talking high end cutting edge electronics here.

Some are bound to break down and more likely when there is a new technic involved as in going from 130nm to 90nm and so on.

I've only ever had 2 cards fail: Diamond Voodoo1 and STB BM Voodoo2.
There doesn't seem to have been a lot of 9700/9800 failures reported here lately, but I do remember a ton of posts of checkerboard corruption after volt mods and high overclocking more than a year ago.

At stock, most of the time you wont see any problems. I had 9700 Pro, and like 3 or 4 different 9800 Pro's. Some were refurbished from newegg and never had a problem with them.
