Hi m8s

This will be an unusual post.
I have been offered to get 3 devices payed by the company and I have to choose them soon (we will buy the three products). They are: A laptop, a PDA and a big LCD screen.
I post in this section because the most important factor in them must be the graphics. The budget is not the big factor this time, but it is not unlimited. I appreciate your help here. Thanks in advance.

The laptop:
I actually own an Acer laptop with Nvidia Geforce2Go 100 graphics but the screen is really bad, the angle of view is really limited and the colors are really bad. I need the laptop screen with nice crisp colors and with good response time. It must be easy with the eyes. Must be at least 15'', preferably Centrino powered (for the battery benefits) and a nice fast graphics card can be a plus (that let me play some games) but not necessary. It must have firewire and DVD-ROM (better if it is a DVD+RW).
I have heard that DELL, Toshiba and Compaq laptops are good quality.

The PDA:
I don't know so much about this, but it must communicate nice with my Windows XP systems. Screen is again the main factor, it must be easy with the eyes and it must be color. Have heard that the Ipaqs have nice screen. I have almost bought a Casio Cassiopeia some years ago. Battery here is a plus and it would be nice if I can connect good storage (like those IBM micro hard drives). I really don't know if going for last Windows or a Palm based PDA. I think I could prefer the Windows one (because I administer lots of windows machines) and I think that the amount of PDA Windows software has grown in the last years. Nice games is a plus also here (for that moments of long waiting times, like airports). It must be easy to connect via wireless standards.

The LCD monitor:
The words here are big, crisp colors and as less ghosting as possible. I already own a NEC LCD2010X 20'' screen. It has nice colors and contrast but it has terrible ghosting in games! I am looking for something in the 23-25'' range. It must scale down well to low resolutions like 800x600 because I use some special external devices that only work at this resolution. The NEC that I have scales well here from its native 1280x1024 to 800x600.

I would just get a laptop. Our school just got way too many of the dell 600 (P?) centrino based laptops. And they are AMAZING. 2hr battery life, and a radeon 9000 graphics chip. Nice little package it has too.

And if you were at an airport you could connect with the laptop as well as the PDA.

If you want to game just take the moeny and buy 2 23" crt's
 
PDA: Get the Sony Clique. Very nice. It's like a tiny laptop basically. Communicates very well with network.
 
so let me make sure i understand you correctly?

your company is going to buy you 1 of the 3 items you listed, and cost is no issue?

in that case i would go with the laptop, simply because you can find one with a greater cash value than any other lcd or pda.

but i would really enjoy havin dual dell 2001fps.

@MontyAC: Yes, centrino is what I was evaluating, but which mark is top notch in screens? My actual Acer laptop sucks.

I hate laptops. :p

A friend from Japan had a Toshiba. He stayed with us for a while, and it played Jedi Knight II decently. That thing had Intel Extreme graphics. :rolleyes: Couldn't match my 5200, but it was better than nothing.

My mom has a Clie. I know nothing at all about it. :p Don't want to know, either. It was inexpensive, and as she says, well worth it. ;)
 
I know a little about the laptops:

Compaq/HP (same company now): They are a decent mainstream product, but thier reliability and service are somewhat sub-par. I've personally have a Compaq laptop fail on me, and even with connections within the company, it took me nearly 3 weeks to have it fixed (and even then, they only fixed the most urgent issue, and ignored the less serious issues, such as a fading LCD screen)

DELL: You get what you pay for...simple as that. High-End Dells are said to be great, but if you skimp out and go for a lower end unit, you'll be getting a cheaply built system that utilizes low end components.

Toshiba: I have a middle of the road Toshiba and I love it. It's tough and resonably powerful - though the Intel GPU acts as a horrible bottleneck for the rest of the system. With most of the Toshibas I've seen, they always seem to be built VERY well, though some of thier internal components may not be cutting edge.

NOTE: With my 2Ghz P4m I can get about 2.5 hours of battery life on a full charge.

IBM: If you have the cash and you don't mind the bland asethetics, these are the best you can buy for a business environment. With IBM build quality (even better than Toshiba in my opinion) and ATIs FireGL 128 (9600 pro) the high end IBMs are killer for any and all work/gaming.

- Look at the IBM ThinkPad T Series 2373
 
Laptop: Toshiba Centrino. They have one with a DVDRW drive in it.

PDA: HP pocket pc of some sort. I have a iPaq 4155, integrated 802.11b and bluetooth. F-in awesome PDA.

Monitor: The 17" NEC. Has a 16ms refresh on it. Has plexi over the screen too for safety.
 
Sorry for the late posting. I like to thank you all for your opinions. This is what has been bought. I am not ready testing them yet:

Laptop: Acer Travelmate 8000. Centrino chipset, 1.7Ghz PM. Ati 9700 gfx.

PDA: DELL Axim X3i wireless package

LCD: NEC LCD2080UX 20'':

I am not agree with you in that. I have a NEC LCD2010X that has a contrast ratio of 300:1 and it is an amazing screen. The only bad of it is the refresh time that is 30ms. NEC screens are top quality.

Well, I'm going to have to say the NEC is top quality... below Dell and Samsung LCDs.
