• Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.

Hi. I've had a phpBB 3 forum running for a while that's running on a hosted service. I haven't been keeping the software updated and worried that it will become a security risk to the rest of the my sites so just want to shut it down and remove any access to the database. Does anyone have any pointers?

You didn't really state what problem you were having getting rid of the forum.

just delete the database, if you may want to relaunch in the future make a backup of the dbse and download it to your computer

Just delete the database and the software.

+1. Make a local backup copy of your folder containing all your phpbb files /forum or whatever the folder where it is installed is. I'd leave the database myself, but you could get rid of that as well. Any of the security holes in phpbb are going to be with the files themselves, so if you get rid of all the files, there is nothing to exploit.
