decoder for klipsch 5.1 ultra

i want to get me a good set of speakers for my pc. my choices are the z-5500 or the promedia ultras. my suitemate just got the z-5500's and i was a little dissapointed with the bass and overall sound. i like them because they have the built in decoder. my question is, what will i miss without the decoder? i play probably 90% music and watch movies the rest. is the decoder what i would need to hook my dvd player to my speakers? if my computer has s-video out, and my tv has s-video in, can i use my pc to play the dvd's and use surround that way? will the picture be clear with this method? basically i want to be able to play my dvd's through my tv in surround sound. if i get the audigy 2zs will this work? or do i need the ddts-100? i tried searching, and i just got even more confused. any help would be greatly appreciated.

With a quality soundcard you won't miss anything by not having a decoder. Just use analog out instead of digital.

Yes, you can use the s-video out on your vidcard to output to your TV. The picture should be clear.

maybe check to see if your friend can tweak the bass settings on his pod, i am surprised to hear that you were disappointed with the sub on the 5500's. i heard the sub on ultra's, which is smaller than that on the 5500's and it sounded almost high pitched to me. it wasnt able to replicate the real low notes very well.
