I'm looking to replace my logitech wireless keyboard (MX3000). I've had this keyboard for long time now. I already replace the mouse with a logitech g500 which BestBuy had on sale for $39. A sale I could not pass up.

Now I'm doing my keyboard research and have looked at the logitech G15, G19, and G110. And just recently started to look at the Deck keyboard online. Problem is it's not a keyboard I can go to BestBuy, TigerDirect/CompUSA and look at hands on before making a purchase.

I'm a software engineer so I do a lot of typing and work from home 2 days a week. Plus when I'm not working I'm playing gamings like COD: MW2, Dragon Age: Origins, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, Crysis and FarCry2. So I want a keyboard not only for work, but for gaming and something with illuminated lighting.

I was on Deck's website and the Deck Legend has the following options:
Deck Legend - 105 Keys
Ice (linear) (tactile)
Frost (tactile)
Fire (linear)
ToXic (linear)

I assume Ice, Frost, Fire, and Toxic is the LED color. Ice comes in either linear or tactile.
What is the difference between linear and tactile?

I've read some of the FAQ on their site and read the following;
16. What kind of key switches are used in Deck keyboards? How long do they last?
We use Cherry MX gold cross point key switches. Our linear switches are Cherry MX1A-11NW (black stem) and our current soft tactile switches are MX1A-C1NW (clear stem; although this may change to MX1A-G1NW - brown stems - in the future). These switches have a 50-million cycle rating which averages out to be around 20 years of normal usage. To put it into perspective, the keyboard you are using right now most likely has 1 million cycle switches and no gold.

So is the linear switches better than the tactile one, or vice-versa?

Thanks Joe

I have the Deck Ice Linear for gaming. Linear are the cherry blacks which aren't that great for typing since they are firm. You will need the Tactile version or cherry blue switches which are the best for typing. Cherry blues can be used for both gaming and work but are more prone to "fat finger" key presses during frantic gaming. The backlit illumination is second to none.

The Tactile uses Cherry MX Browns. So you'll have a tactile bump when the key engages but it won't click like the blues or IBM's.

Actually I think the tactile uses Cherry Whites, which is the Cherry Browns with the Cherry Blacks spring.

correct. The whites are somewhere in between Cherry blacks and Browns. Super sweet board. I love the fact that it's plug and play with no drivers or other frilly BS. In fact I even use in on my PS3 just fine.

Just to note - the deck tactile uses what are called Cherry Clears (which appear similar to whites, but aren't the same). I had done research between that specific board and the Filco Majestouch, but ended up with a Filco Linear since I mostly game. Still really curious about how the Deck Tactile would be for gaming (Majestouch), but I don't want to end up with countless keyboards littered around my computer :)

What about USB versus PS/2? Does this really make a difference as to which one I pick?

USB will give you 6-Key rollover(six simultaneous key presses)

PS/2 will give you infinite key rollover.

Deck Legend Ice tactile.
I own it and it is fantastic.
If it was ergonomic in shape it would be perfect:)
No other backlit keyboard even comes close.....

I can only comment on Cherry brown switches since I own a FILCO Majestouch which Im selling. Not illuminated but, Cherry MX browns are great for gaming and typing. Why am I selling it you may ask? Not illuminated.

So I ended up getting the Deck Legend - Frost. I must say I really love this keyboard.

Only question I have is I powered my new PC down and my keybaord remained illuminated. Is this correct? Shouldn't it have turned off?

USB devices will usually still pull power when a computer is turned off (might be an option in bios). I've noticed that my external USB harddrives flashes while my computer is off. Most likely, you have the option to turn the computer on via keyboard , therefore it must be still on to receive the keystroke even if the computer is off.

I figured it out. You hold down the FN key and press 0 and it turns the backlighting off. Then hold FN, 1 thru 7 to set brightness level.
