ok i'm probably going to order my processor and motherboard tonight but i'm stuck on what to get.

i really want a IC7 MAX 3 because OTES is nice, but it doesn't have a 3rd IDE channel and it's kinda pricey. Does OTES really matter? oh ya and this board includes useless features like Secure IDE (POS)

IC7 MAX 2 is nice and has almost everything i want plus includes the $27 Parrellel to SATA adapter so i can hook up another parrellel drive to an IDE channel.

Than there's the Asus pc800 E deluxe, which has not active cooling on the northbridge.

well i guess my real question is does OTES or a northbridge fan really matter and what which board should i get IC7 MAx 3, max 2 or the Asus P$c800 E deluxe?

My vote is for the P4C800-E Deluxe. I've never had problems with Asus boards but I have had issues in the past with Abit.

I've had three processors on my P4C800. A 2.0A Northwood I got that to 2.6GHz Stock voltage, A Pentium 4 2.4C which I couldn't get past 2.6Ghz even with upping my voltage and my 3.06 which I have at 3.46GHz using stock voltage.

Any of those boards have a good overclocking reputation. However I personally bet on Asus quality over Abit's any day of the week. Thats just my opinion. :)
 
I'd go with the ASUS board as the IC7-MAX3 supposedly has issues with certain types of memory, but the P4C800 has voltage fluctuations.
 
the P4C800 does indeed have voltage fluctuations but they have never been a real problem for me. The other thing I have noticed is that the memory configuration issues are something that all i865 and i875 owners have to do with. It's partially the chipset.

That being said I wouldn't be surprised at all if Asus was a little better about that then Abit. Back in the KT7A Raid days the Abit board wasn't as flexible as the Asus A7V-133A. Even tho they were based on the same chipset.
 
I have a P4P800 and an IS7, and I like the P4P800 somewhat better, purely due to layout reasons. I also think the OTES shroud come become a nuisance for larger HSFs.

why not use the SATA channels instead? It has 4. Unless you already have more than 4 IDE devices, I would say just keep what you got and then buy SATA drives for your new stuff.
