So I'm looking to build a new computer and I'm looking at two options, and looking for opinions. I like to play games, however, most of what I do is advertising design. Due to the price drop coming later for the Q6600's here's my two choices:

1) Q6600 + BFG 8800GTS OC2 320mb

or

2) E6600 + BFG 8800GTX OC2 768mb

I'm kinda on the fence, as I don't know if I'm going to be willing to plop down the $500 bones for another 8800GTX later + the cost of the Q6600 when the price drops. On the other side of things, I don't know if the GTS will be high enough performance later in combo with the Q6600. Let me know what you guys think...

There's the need to know at what resolution will you intend to play. If it's not too high and you don't play that often, then the GTS 320 will be more than enough. Fantastic performer for the price. Best bang for your buck atm, in the high-end.
However, if you game at something like a 24'' monitor, the GTX is the only way to go. But then again, if you don't game that much, the GTX would be wasted.
Also, if you end up buying a GTX, you don't even need to think about getting another, any time soon. It's a power house.
 
I suppose I could go the 640mb route -- however the reason between the two choices is due to the similar price, and I do realize it's only $100 more...

As for the monitor, right now I'll be rocking a 19", however I will be upgrading shortly -- something I hadn't taken into consideration.

I would say that the E6600 and 8800 GTX would offer you the best performance, especially for gaming, unless you're running really CPU intensive applications that are multithreaded for quad cores.
 
My typical files in Photoshop are 500mb+, so I think the quad core route may be more beneficial, however I think I could do the dual purpose of getting the slower processor now, then when the price drops get another mobo & upgrade the wifes computer. Good stuff I think.....
