I have searched for several hours on modular psu in the 600-700 range. In my local area of Watertown NY the only one I found was the Corsair cx 750 which is not rated that good at 76.00 or the cx 850 at 112 I think over priced. Right now am runniing an Antec vp450. This is powering A10-7870k,16gb 2133 ddr3, 5 ssds bluray combo, Gtx750TI sc, and an old Ageia card. I use a Killowatt meter and peak powers use is about 230 watts under 3dmark. I want to try my GTX660TI that right now is sitting on a shelf. I want modular because the extra cables are a PIA. Anyone had good experience with particular brand? Like to stay around 75 -100$ range. Thanks for any info....

Your Kilowatt meter is measuring at the wall which means that it's not measuring your system's power needs. It's measuring the power draw. A power supply's rating is for what it can provide to the system, not what it draws from the outlet. A maxed out 750W PSU that is 80% efficient can draw 937.5W from the wall.

Going by the review HERE, your PSU's efficiency at loads bookending yours was 85.5% and 84.5%, so we'll assume 85% efficiency at load for your setup. This means that your system is currently drawing 195.5W , with 34.5W being dissipated as heat. Adding a GTX 660 adds about 80W to your system load, so you'd be hovering around 275W. Your current PSU is more than adequate.

But if you must upgrade to modular the two best right now in the opinion of myself and many others are the EVGA G2-550, and the Corsair RM550x. Going lower wattage will either reduce the quality or raise the price, so this is the sweet spot. I lean slightly towards the EVGA, but really, they're very close with subtle benefits to each. If you run off a UPS, get the Corsair. If you don't run off a UPS, get whichever is cheaper. If time isn't an issue, wait. Every 2-3 months the G2-550 goes on sale for $80 or less, with an additional $20 MIR bringing it to $60 or less.

other than modular I would have to use the two molex to 6 pin pci-e adaptor as I only have one pci-e 6 pin connector coming from the Antec and I need two. I have heard this adaptor can cause problems

jiust read the jonny guru review a perfect 10 will go wth the evga if I do go modular....

The adapter only causes problems with poorly designed PSUs. A good PSU will not have issues using such adapters.
