Hi there:
I'm diving in headfirst into networking my house, and want to go ahead and get a good managed switch.

What I'm looking for:
24ports
all gigabit
reasonable cost (<~$300)

Other network components:
Ubiquiti EdgeRouter
Ubiquiti UniFi
Cat6 runs

The switch will be installed in a closet in my office, so noise isn't a HUGE issue, but quieter would be better.

I've looked at the HP 1810 and 1910 switches, but wanted to know if there was something out there that I missed. Anyone care to help guide me?

I picked up a Dell refurbished (or like-new?) 16 port for $80 on eBay. It works fine. I am sure you can get a 24-port for under $300.

Otherwise, the HP's would be great as well.

For a silent managed switch:

HP Procurve 1810-24 V2 (Super low power consumption)
HP Procurve 1910-24 (Not sure, but this used to be a 3com rebadged switch)
Dell Power Connect 2824 (Direct competitor to the HP 1810)
Linksys SG300-20 Layer 3 (The ONLY L3 silent switch I know of available under $300, CLI is similar to Cisco IOS)
Zyxel GS1910-24 (has more features than all except the SG300, quick GUI)

Zyxel GS1910-24 or the HP 1910... (don't go with the Zyxel GS1900)
The HP does have a fan and is quite noisy whereas the Zyxel doesn't.

Wouldn't bother with the HP 1810 and SG300...

Thanks for the info. I had skimmed a few posts in regards to this as well, but wanted to see if there was something I'd missed. I'm leaning towards the HP unless it turns out the fan is particularly annoyingly loud. Thanks for the heads-up on the Fe vs G versions on the 1910's, btw.

The Dell switches look good, but I couldn't find anything compelling with them versus the price of the HP's.

I'd not considered Zyxel, so I'll look into them more.

Cmustang87-No need for L3 or POE at this point in time. I may put up a UniFi Video system down the road (replaced UBNT's Airvision systems), but I'll use a 24v POE switch for those (and not nearly enough of them to populate a 24port switch).

Dell PowerConnect switches are pretty good for your requirements, but they are quite loud.

Exactly that was the main reason why i chose Zyxel GS1910-24
HP 1910 is better especially considering fact that after little bit of tinkering you can get fully working CLI - similar to that on 5000 series switches. But that fan...

If you don't mind fans and want 10Gb SFP+ you can get a Quanta LB4M off ebay for less than $300

If you want fanless 10Gb SFP+ for less than $300 you can get a Routerboard CRS226-24G-2S+IN. They also rolled out a rackmount version that should be at distributors this week sometime.

If your budget is $300 there isn't any reason NOT to go 10Gb.

Thanks for all the input!
I picked up a HP 1910 from Amazon, and will try it in my setup first. If the fans are too stupidly loud, I'll likely return it and go Zyxel.

I really dislike the UI and it's sluggish not to mention that I like having CLI around if WebUI dies for some reason. The 1910-24G costs just as much, have much better UI (layout and responsiveness) and more features. If you dislike the noise I'd go for a Zyxel GS1910-24 instead.
