Decent benchmarks?

I just built a computer with a 2.4 533 p4, 512 ram,radeon 9800 pro and I get 13900 in 3d mark 2001 se. Is this good?

Why are people still using these benchmarks?

Also, atleast be more detailed with it.. like what were your settings on your vidcard for DirectX apps? OC card? What hard-drives? etc etc etc.

These threads get old. There was a reason why Futuremark decided to put a comparison feature so you can look up your rig and compare it to others that are similar.

It's good since you're not overclocking the cpu or gpu.

Theres a reason this forum is here also so dont reply to them if they make you so angry.

I agree with him also.

Personally, this is how I view canned benchmarks. If you're here, chances are you are at least curious about overclocking/tweaking etc. Take a baseline run, and then overclock/tweak to your hearts content, and make more runs *using the same program*. Compare your results only to those obtained on your system. Overclock your video card, see how many 3dmarks you pick up. Overclock your cpu, see how many 3dmarks you pick up. Tweak your ram/fsb settings, see how many 3dmarks you pick up, etc etc etc. I wouldn't go around comparing your system's results to other people's, but that's just me.

One thing to add, as well, is if you're going to be doing benchmarking, you should make a user account under XP for that and that alone, and make sure absolutely *nothing* loads on startup except for the bare minimum of what windows NEEDS to run. Reboot between benchmarking runs for *best* results, but that's not always time-friendly(like, if you're overclocking your video card using the old methods, rather than using something like atitool[which I do in-fact strongly recommend]).

I've actually been a but curious about this point.
Will alt+ctrl+del+endtask_everything_uneeded have the same effect?

Yes,Just close everything but system, then open your overclocking program of choice and then run 3Dmark.
