Hey I'm trying to hunt down a decent 22" lcd for use as a desktop but also I want the best movie reproduction I can find. Short of a Benq FP241W which is unfortunately outside my budget(and bigger 24", but i can't afford a full hd monitor unfortunately). What would you guys recommend for a 300$ or so 22'" lcd. I've never seen this twinkling effect alot of websites talk about, but evidently I want a P-MVA panel so I don't get this?

btw, i say movie lcd as I don't care about response times. I won't be using this lcd for gaming at all.

You won't be able to find a P-MVA 22in LCD.

All 22in out in the market are TN panels which are hardly the best panel to watch movies on.

bad news :s what would your suggestion be then? upgrade my budget or downgrade my size? or ?

for tn panels I was thinking of going with the acer al2216w . looks like a decent one for a cheap price. Altho I'd ahte to get a tn panel for my movie watching, i fear my budget mayrequire it.

what i mean to say, what would come close to what i'm looking for? is there a decent 24" panel for not alot of money thats p-mva or should i just go to a 20" p-mva and if so whats a good 20" p-mva ?

i've never seen this twinkling effect. are TN panels really THAT bad for movies? :s

I guess it depends on what your definition of decent is. (seriously)
A TN panel IS decent for movie watching.
A 10 year old Cavalier is decent to just drive to work and back.

They are not my recommendation, but they will work.

Best bet is to go to one of those big box stores and see if you can make them play a movie on one of those panels. Then you can judge for yourself if it's worth it or not. Every eyeball is different. I can accurately tell the difference between a CRT refresh rate of 72Hz and 85Hz. One of my co-workers can't see the difference between 85p and 60Hz interlaced! (I can't look at that for more than 5 seconds without getting a headache).

Advice: if there is no real flexibility in your budget, then do not look at any monitors above your budget. If you don't see anything better, you won't know what you're missing. ie: don't go on a blind date after spending the night at the Playboy mansion :).

If $300 is your limit, then 24" is out. If the "best movie reproduction you can get" is desired, then you're looking at 20" or even lower. But that's almost like asking for the fastest sports car on a lot full of minivans. They will work, but you're not going to win any races against your neighbours.

20.1"w: Acer AL2051W is P-MVA and can be found <$300. I don't know much more about it other than that though.

i hear ya,i think i'll have to go look at some 22" tn's .The benq fp241w looks nice but the cheapest i could find it for was 720$ @ newegg.com

I'll look for the best condition cavalier i can find. :) perhaps it won't run too bad. I'll be sure to kick the tires.

should i go with a chin mei panel or a samsung one? samsung 225 looks like most ppl like it. I'll have to see if a place has that and the acer 2216bw in store.
