I've been following this forum (and in particular the monitor porn thread) for years now, and have always liked the look of the multi-monitor setups with debezeled monitors.

My current setup consists of a bunch of DoubleSight monitors, both the DS-305W and DS-307W models. For those of you with these beasts, you no doubt are painfully aware of the monstrous bezel. Monitor info below:

DS-307W

I would very much like to remove the ultra-thick bezel, but honestly, I'm chicken of disassembling one to see how much I could remove for fear of it not working once put back together.

Has anyone here already done this on a DS monitor? If so, how did it go?

Searching hasn't turned up much. I'm hoping someone seeing this may have some insight or thoughts on the process!

Nobody? Bummer...

Any thoughts on how to proceed in general, beyond the "don't F!@& it up" mantra?

I've tried finding information about removing the bezel on monitors and they mostly talk about just being cautious. If you don't mind damaging or ruining them just start taking the screws off and be careful. The issues don't really start until you have to relocate the buttons or other electronic parts to the back of the screen.

I know this is a little late, but I figured I would reply because nobody has helped me much either. http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1812638. Apparently [H]ard in these forums is more about working hard to purchase the most expensive items rather than actually doing something hard in the form of modifications. I've received little to no response from anything complicated I post here.

My advice is if you are only removing the plastic housing, as most people do, you shouldn't fear too much. Obviously be careful, but when removing the plastic housing your greatest risk is probably scratching the plastic and living with the scratch if you decide to put it back on, even though you don't plan to. Just take your time and don't let any components fall out if you are prying off with it not sitting flat. There are things attached to the rear of the panel, but they may not be secured to it if it makes sense.

The outer bezel pretty much does nothing, unless it holds the components inside together. But as long as you keep everything flat when removing it, you'll be fine.

Disclaimer: I don't have the high end displays you are referring to. Mine also aren't IPS. But my guess is there is little to no difference in anything other than the panel itself which is an important but buried component to these things. You won't even have to consider damaging the panel itself until you break into the steel housing as I did, and even then, you basically have to do something very dumb to damage it.

IF you decide to go deeper into it as I did, you need to try an minimize finger prints and dust entering it. However, for the most part you probably won't see any effects of this either. unless you cause damage. For example, allowing dust into the light diffusing layers could only mean you need to up the brightness setting one point to compensate.

If you'd like more help from me, please post on the thread I have posted as I won't be subscribing to this one.
