I never realized that they were plated plastic. The few I have taken apart were, or appeared to be solid metal.
Of course he might have just invented transparent metal, how cool would that be.
 
Ceramic, DUH, you are right, they are not plastic they are glass, i.e. ceramic.
Still, cool.
 
actually it's on the homepage but who gives a crap anyways :p I think that its amazing that the things lasted a week like that! I mean just one or two particles of dust can cause a devistating head crash. the fact that there that worn down is amazing. and IBM claimed that the deskstar drives were in the accectable range of failure, bah!
