Dear nehalem haters

It's not hating. It's called i wish I would have had a little patientence and waited a few months and not built a new system at this time of the year on a dead socket and for about the same money as an entry level nehalem system will cost syndrome. :)

P.S. E-peens are shrinking a little more every day as the launch approaches lol.

we shall see
price of ddr3 at triple channel will have something to do with it as well

I don't hate Nehalem, I just wish that my old computer had been able to make it through the summer, that I could upgrade to Nehalem without having to buy a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM (something I just did), and that the price of DDR3 wasn't so ridiculous compared to the price of DDR2. I doubt the price of DDR3 will be taking any nose-dives prior to the launch of Nehalem, which will likely leave current C2Ds and C2Qs an attractive option even after Nehalem's release.

It's like how P4s suddenly became obsolete and unusable the second the original A64 was released, or how A64 X2s became obsolete and unusable the second Anand leaked those Conroe benchmarks. Yes, Nehalem will be significantly faster than what we have now. No, I won't regret my purchase.

Nehalem is awesome. We get it.

My Q6600 is very fast as well for everything I need now and in the future. Nobody needs Nehalem. Then again, I don't need a quad.:p

well i think my e6700 is enough for me until this bethlehem cpu is fully established in the market... im thinking mid to late next year i'll update... :) :)

as far as im concerned this pc kicks some fucking ass and takes numbers... its a whore...

but im concerned about this triple-channel.... does that mean it will have only 3 memory slots (maybe six).. but that means i would either have to drop down to 6GiB of ram or move up to 12GiB of ram to take advantage... hrmmmm. or is that just for server-based chips like i heard somewhere i cannot remember... where.. who knows.. alzheimers... its a bitch..

The price of DDR3 is approximately twice the price of DDR2. But even so, that's not very expensive, considering you can get 8 GB of DDR3 right now in 4 sticks for $350. That's only $350. Well, to some, that might be a lot, but think about how much RAM you're getting... 8 GB!

And for half that I can get 8 GB of DDR2.

Sure, it may be "only" twice as expensive, but it adds up. More expensive RAM, (probably) more expensive motherboards, and, if Nehalem ramps up anything less than perfectly, a more expensive CPU too. Individually, each component won't be that much more expensive, but it adds up.

half? you can easily get 8gb quality ddr2 ram in 4 sticks for $140-$150. not to mention a whole new motherboard

Im tired of people saying DDR3 is stupid expensive. Its cheaper than DDR2 was a year and a half ago. You can get 3GB of basic DDR3 for $110. And if you think the manufacturers wont have 3 stick packages out on nehalem/X58's release day you're insane. 3x512 will be the entry OEM setup, 3x1024 will midgrade and 3x2048 packages will be enthusiest setups, it'll be a little more than DDR2, but the difference isnt as huge as people are saying. Newegg has 2x1024 OCZ DDR2 for $45, 2x1024 DDR3 for $70, both OCZ. Its memory, it'd be just fine. Push off the 1024 per stick to 2048 per stick transition for a lot of people is all. Jumping to 3GB instead of 4GB.

Also: Nehalem.

i am still using a P4 3.2ghz pc hehe and i recently brought a ps3 to keep me occupied untill nehalem arrives, HOWEVER, I have just started music producing again and my god this pc cannot cope with that anymore. it takes a long time to load up vsti plugins and stuff.

seriously, if you have £1000 now for a new pc, i would wait for nehalem has its just literely MONTHS away from being released and socket 775 is going to be dead. get a entry level nehalem now, and when your ready, get the proper nehalem cpu once the prices have gone down.

im gunna wait a montha fter its released to see what bugs/issues arrises. you lot can be my guine pigs :)

is nehalem quad core only?

this (nehalem out sept/oct) was reported several days ago in toms among other places. this could mean really good prices on q9550/9650 soon.

Look at your HDD, not the CPU for long load times.

The price on current quads are already good dude, 20 bucks more or less is moot at this point. Sens the extreme editions.

I'm glad I bought my X48 when I did.

In a year, when it's time to flush the radiator and the pump, there will be a plethora of motherboard and ram choices and I won't have been anybodies crappy/unstable/poor overclocking bios guinea pig and ddr3 will be cheap.

Who knows, maybe I might only make it 6 -9 months.......:D

Must......be................strong...........

Beat me to it. Nobody seems to have had an issue buying ddr 2 back when they got their conroes and ddr2 cost more. Now all of a sudden everyone is up in arms about this. People have the memory span of a squirrel I swear...

I remember when I paid $280 for my OCZ VX 1GB, when I built this machine. 1 GB was the standard good PC back then, much like ~3 GB is now. RAM prices have only become relatively cheaper over time. Back then, above standard RAM levels for $40 was unheard of. Absolutely unheard of.

Agreed. Nehalem will be faster, sure (although from the few benchmarks I've seen so far, not much in single-threaded applications - the big benefits are only in highly multithreaded programs). But it doesn't suddenly mean that a Core 2 suddenly gets slower, and there are only a few tasks where there aren't diminishing returns on increasing CPU power because other components become bottlenecks (generally hard drive or graphics).

Of course, plenty of enthusiasts with Q9450s or something will buy Nehalem the moment it comes out to have the fastest CPU there is, but it will generally be for bragging rights/feelgood factor rather than because switching to Nehalem will provide real-world performance benefits. The right time to upgrade anything is when what you have isn't good enough, not just because something new comes out.

(Incidentally, I suspect that C2Qs will survive particularly well - well-multithreaded programs are needed to make full use of Nehalem, but these same well-multithreaded programs will also be able to make good use of the capacity that's currently often idle on a quad-core.)

hdd is a PATA lol and i do have a sata but i use that has my storage drive bcause im going to slot that into my new rig and buy a 1TB hdd for my new pc. my cpu is dead slow mate, the old version of the music program i use, use to load ALOT quicker then this. also my RAM is only 2gb and i can only and it used most of my ram.

nehalem is going to be amazing and you guys shold embrass it. you never know, it may come out with no major issues/bugs. its highly possible and Intel have no rush t bring these out. heck they could delay it till sep next year and use all that time to test it because AMD has NOTHING to compete with nehalem let alone the current core 2 cpu's

look at my current rig mate. i need nehalem

Nelaham will be a joke.
DDR3 price and peformance will be a sick joke
But the laughing stock will be reserved for X58mobo

your post is a joke. saying nehalem is a joke without a reason makes you look like a joke mate. post some hard facts instead of saying nehalem and dr3 is a joke when you aint even tried one yourself.

stop being bitter because you cant afford one :D

Actually, I didn't buy Conroe immediately when it came out. Compared to my Athlon X2 system, I saw no need to upgrade, especially if I had to buy a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM. Now that the RAM is cheaper it was a much more attractive proposition.

I am totally happy with my sig PC for gaming, but as a long time n00bie nerd I am looking forward to upgrade to Nehalem as soon as I can, same as when the C2D was released because it's a major architectural improvement. Time push out the oldest of my 4 home PC's ...

I will get Nehalem and do the unthinkable: underclock it and add a couple of SSDs and make the most powerful passive silent quad! :D:D
Or better still: a silent passive Gainstown DP monster!
:D:D

Are there also going to be new quad cores coming out? I'm in need of a new rig myself

I hate Nehalem. He killed my whole family in a stormy night and stole my babe Jesus.

Who fuck is going to hate a processor chip?

The joke is the cost to performance ratio.....and even if one is rich, it'd be pretty stupid to update to Nelly and DDR3 for the sake of maybe 15-20% more performance when the QUAD kicks in.
You must be a Intel cheerleader or tinker who just buys whatever Intel dumps on the market....most people are much smarter than that.

diddnt you read my first post here? the entry level nehalem doesnt cost that much as you thought it would. plsu do you know the prices of a x58 mobo yet? ddr3 prices has someone as pointed out are NOT that expensive like how ddr2 was in its infantry state. check out the "early" benchmarks on crappy mobo's and you will see that the nehalem beats a core 2 by more then 20% and thats with a crappy mobo full of bugs and next to no driver support.

it will be faster then those initial benchmarks mate so stop hating mate and if you cant afford a nehalem then thats your problem. this thread was aimed at people like you who think it will cost 10k to build a nehalem pc :D:)

:)

Look at the cost of X48 boards......why do you think the next big thing will cost "less".
Also, who gives a crap about a 20-25% performance increase when it requires a new expensive system?.
My point is plain and simple, the September Nelly's are BS and not worth the premium....so don't be a Intel Sheeple.
GDDR3 performance is about AMOUNT, not clockspeed, so it will require at least 4 gigs + a Nelly and a $300 mobo.....that's why I'm proud to express my Nelly hate.

I remember about 4 years ago I bought my pc in my sig and it ran me around 2700 dollars :(. Thats total I think I've spent on my rig because it originally had a 5200 nvidia card in it because when I built it that was the fastest card for pci-e :p. Then I used the step-up from evga to a 6800gt and WoW raids + heat consumed that card. I now have a 7600gt.

On a side note the northbridge heatsink on my computer lastr week had one of the spring loaded connecters that hold the heatsink down pop off and the spring was gone. I had to take the peg and go and get a pack of pens to get another spring and cut it to the right length to make it work (ghetto i know) :(.

My pc is getting old (sad day :( :( )

It might be even sadder if you go 4 Nelly in Sep.
I paid $5500 for a PC in 1998.....but my point is that even if you're up for a new build, it's going to be costly compared to current gen, and IMO, not really worth the extra grunt.

Oh noes. My last build let me know that buying the fastest tech out (I built the month PCI-e dropped and the fastest cpu was the 3.4 :p. I'm probably going to keep rocking this rig for another 2 years until it becomes a server PC. I don't want to invest in ddr2 (I have never even owned a ddr2 or dual core machine) or dual core. I'm getting to completely skip that gen. I'm going to wait 2 more years and build a new machine with 4 cores and 8 or more gigs of ram. By that time DDR3 should be decent and not super crazy prices along with decent neh prices.

Fair enough, but what's any of this got to do with why you hate Nelly?.....you got the wrong thread or you drinking again?

I will be doing a full upgrade to the Nehalem. I am SOOO damn glad I waited. The wait was not hard either.

I hate nelly from making my pc's net worth go from 300 dollars to 200 dollars grrrr.

:p
