I just did a fresh install of windows. I've spent about the past hour or so doing the driver installation dance. i installed catalyst 5.1 for my radeon 9800xt.

Now its doing this. And Im crying as I type these thread.

I've never had a problem like this with windows and an ati card before. I've tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling the driver. Other than that I'm pretty much clueless as to what to do.

Did you use drive cleaner to rip out all traces of old driver?
Why is your Windows Firewall on? Turn that shit off, it causes nothing but problems
Did you remove the old driver, restart and then install the new driver in VGA mode?

find a copy of drivercleaner. Remove the ATI driver. Reboot into safe mode, run drivercleaner and remove the ati catalyst drivers. Reboot into normal mode, skip the found new hardware boxes, when windows finally boots up, run the catalyst installl program. Hope this helps, I'm an nvidia guy myself, but this routine has saved my butt more than once when a driver update went bad. :)

Good Luck!

I think that error is due to that the CCC needs Microsoft .NET framework 1.1 or something. Just go on Windows Update and look for that and install it.

If you just did a fresh install of windows, why are you just now adding the drivers for your ATI???? My protocol is usually.....windowsXP>MB drivers>video drivers>sound drivers>XP updates>programs. You seem to have alot of stuff on your screen that could cause problems.
I usually always restart after each driver install to make sure I can find any problems.
The driver cleaner advice above is very good as well.
I also am an nVidia guy, but always use driver cleaner before any driver updates.

You need to install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 or higher. ATi Catalyst Control Center requires .NET. I get that same error when I didn't have .NET set up when I installed ATi CCC.

I think it's more like:

Microsoft crap, download you must. Begun, the Microsoft Flame War has.

Solaris FTW...

Slowaris: The power of Unix and the wait times of Windows NT. :D

As far as ATi drivers go, the fact that they use .NET explains why they are double the size of nVidia drivers.

No, you can also download the ATI API drivers. The 25mb one. CCC is if you want the fancy GUI and unneccessary things or Overdrive. The ATI API drivers do not require .Net
