Dealing With Difficult Game Server Admins/Leaders

I was just banned from a CoD4 server. If you're interested, there's an ongoing thread about it at the web site for that server (get some popcorn :p):

And I was thinking it might be interesting to swap stories and experiences dealing with difficult server admins and leaders. How do you approach it? Has it prevented you from enjoying a game? (In my case, the server I was banned from is dead enough that I don't care anyway, but I'd be bummed if it happened at a more happening place.)

How about coming at it from the other side—if you're a server admin (I am an admin as well), how do you keep yourself fair and objective?
 
Make clear rules and never deviate from them, remove the emotional aspect, be objective not subjective.
 
From the server admin side: you're running a game server for people to have fun, including yourself. It isn't meant to be an ego-boosting machine to make you feel better about your small penis. And f-off servers with 25 pages of arcane rules - go run for Grand Poobah of Russia or something.

From the player side: find a different server. The type of admin that gets off by being a douche will only enjoy watching you rant at him/her, and it's a waste of your damn time and health.

The worst I had was a BC2 server where they were anal-retentive about swearing, as if it instantly would open a black hole and kill their mothers if you said "shit" after a bad death. Yet 5+ admins on an oppossing team would sit there doing nothing if 1-2 people were spawn-TK'ing the entire team for the entire map. The only reason I didn't just leave is the server had the best competition - quite a few good people played there. (Although that one had a happy ending eventually...I ended up talking with one of the main guys who was very open about feedback, so in the end it worked out OK.)
 
Go play on another server?

Also, insert obligatory snide remark about playing any CoD game.
 
Frankly, Tacticious sounds like a cock. I can't stand people like him.
 
I once had a BF3 admin kill me so he could take the plane I just got in to. I then took the time out of my day to make a nasty post on the servers forums. Turns out he was a new admin taking advantage of his admin powers. He wasn't an admin for too much longer.

I've always just been the "Hey lets all be friends" guy so I'm very rarely at odds with an admin. The last time I was banned was from ninja girl racheals counter-strike server. It's one of those servers thats supported by a mildly (think "front") pornographic website. Anyhoo I have a habit of posting pictures from my wifes modeling shoots. Tasteful stuff. She modeled for mens magazines like Menzo. The Belgian Maxim. Arty runway stuff etc. Shes not a trashy sports car model or anything lame like that.

In this case they didn't like me posting pictures of girls who weren't on the payroll and banned me. I went to the website explained what happen+wtf. Ban lifted, but I didn't go back. I don't play on servers with admins who don't give warnings.

this is why usually more than 1 admin will review a player. as a skilled fps, i have to deal with getting banned however there are servers that more skilled player end up at.

so the best way to not get banned is play in a server where most people are same skilled as you. dont ruin noob server with noob players fun.
 
My worst experience was when i was accused of cheating, i was new to online gaming but had played many solo FPS, so I had the basics down. Needless to say I got the majority of kills and was kicked out right before the timer ended. Had a 10 year old admin scream obscenities at me for getting more kills than him. I'm a respectful person in rl, so online i'm no different. Needless to say I got a rude awakening to the world of online gaming.
 
Just move on, there's so many 12 year old kids with their parents credit cards making servers and unable to admin them maturely that it's not worth the hassle, find another favourite place to play.
 
A common problem in BF3
From server being disconnected when the admin's team is losing, to being kicked because I killed the admin. Too many retards out there running these servers.

Which is why these days I'm not too keen on MP games.
 
As a whole, many of these gaming server admins are weak-willed losers "in the real" who get pushed around by everyone. Acting like an authoritarian dick with the tiny amount of power they have in their lives is one of the few sources of joy and empowerment they experience.

And then every now and then you get the real pathological types...the ones with some kind of full-blown cluster-B personality disorder.
