I am still left wondering what it is about the Deadpool movie that is so profound, but since everyone else apparently loved it (this guy calls it groundbreaking, ha ha), I will point out that the sequel will be dropping next summer. The real news to me is that they are doing a new X-Men movie about the Dark Phoenix Saga with Sophie Turner as Jean Grey in the lead, who did a great job at demonstrating her total lack of acting ability in the last one. Is there a point of any of this, since Logan will be very hard to top?

Next year is going to be jam-packed in terms of Fox superhero titles: New Mutants will open April 13, 2018, while Dark Phoenix hits cinemas on Nov. 2. New Mutants, directed by Josh Boone, follows a young team of superheroes, while Dark Phoenix will revisit a classic comic book storyline that saw Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) become the host for the Phoenix Force, a cosmic entity that eventually drives her to becoming a destructive force that ultimately leads to her death. Longtime X-Men writer and producer Simon Kinberg is a top contender to direct the project, which is a followup to 2016's X-Men Apocalypse.

Along with Guardians of the Galaxy part deux and Aliens: Convent this is looking to be a good summer.

I liked Deadpool because of the constant 4th-wall breaking (which has more to do with the character than the movie, I guess)

Deadpool was awesome because it was essentially brutal satire combined with an extremely lovable anti-hero.

It also proved that R-rated movies can still make money; something many suit-wearing, focus-testing board members thought was impossible.

I suspect that, like Spiderman, they have to make movies every so often or they lose the rights.

you are correct, but in the case of deadpool 2 it's due to production changes that has pushed it back. second reason is there's not as much marvel/DC competition next summer but there are two high risk movies that could fail miserably with Dark Phoenix and X-men: New Mutants which continues off the movie Logan. so deadpool 2's basically Fox's saving grace for the summer season if those movies do poorly.

as far as how the contracts work with marvel, they have 3 years from the previous release or acquisition of a movie/character to announce a movie that character will be in. if production or a date isn't set by the end of those 3 years they lose the rights to it. which is why you keep seeing the regurgitation of spider-man movies as you pointed out.

I didn't mind deadpool, but it wasn't very sequel worthy. If you read t comics I hear it's better

Oh, man. I know it's a slip, but....I would LOVE to see an Aliens: Convent movie! A bunch of nuns completely unaware that they are "impregnated" with the aliens, you could have chest bursting in church, religious overtones - I mean, they are nuns, they could see it as demons, and just all of it. Seems like it'd be a great movie. And it'll never happen. Ah well.

New Mutants is NOT a continuation of Logan. Logan is the end of that timeline. McAvory and, I believe, Turner are supposed to be some part of New Mutants. Most likely, New Mutants will take place before X-Men: Dark Phoenix and be set in the early 90s.

For me, the problem with Spiderman is they keep doing origin stories. I realize that the first one was 15 years ago, but it's not so old that it looks bad. People can just go back and watch that. They don't do an James Bond origin every time a new actor takes over.

they're making a mistake releasing it in the heart of the busy summer season...one of the the reasons the first Deadpool did as well as it did was because they released it in February which is a slow month for movies

ahh ok i didn't really look into it.. figured they would of done something with x-23 and all the other engineered mutants.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see Laura turn up in something like X-Force or some other movie with Cable since they could tie in his time travel origins with her being in a future time and use that to bring Laura into the main movies but I don't expect to see them do a full sequel movie with that group.

No, Deadpool did well DESPITE being released in February. Feb is usually where studios throw movies to die at the box office. It's usually a bad month for movies and tends to be the cast-off spot for summer or award season movies that studios don't have much faith in. Make no mistake, Fox expected Deadpool to bomb hard. They had absolutely zero faith in the movie, the director, or in Ryan Reynolds. Even with the incredibly limited budget it was given, releasing in Feb means Fox sent the movie out to die. June is a HUGE sign of faith in the movie. That is usually the spot where Fox puts the tent pole X-Men movies or whatever big summer blockbuster they want. Deadpool 2 is in the perfect spot. All three of the release dates for X-Men movies next year make sense. New Mutants in March, giving it a chance to sink or swim on it's own, Deadpool as the star of the year, and Dark Phoenix poking at a spot that Marvel likes to end it's year on. November is quickly becoming an interesting place for second-tier comic book movies. As for right now, Deadpool 2 is the only superhero movie slated for June. Avengers is May and Ant-Man and the Wasp is July. I expect something will fall into June, maybe Flash since its likely that will get delayed, but right now it's free and clear for Deadpool 2.

June is only a sign of faith based on the box office receipts for the first movie...which is why I think they are over-estimating it...I don't think it will do as well when thrown in with other big budget summer blockbusters...Deadpool is better served as an anti-blockbuster...FOX is expecting it to be as big as Guardians of the Galaxy or Star Wars or Avengers and they are making a mistake...this will only hurt the future of the franchise as lower then expected box office numbers will hurt the series moving forward

I don't think they're expecting Star Wars numbers out of it, unless they're a lot more stupid than I think they are (which, for the record, is VERY stupid). Yes, its faith based off of the last movie. That's how sequels work and how studios decide when to release a movie and how much marketing to put behind it. Deadpool 2 is in a month where there are currently no Marvel Pictures of DC movies. That gives a ton of breathing room for it. June 1st is three days off of a full month away from Avengers and over a month away from Ant-Man and the Wasp. Marvel isn't going to toss something into June so Fox just has to worry about Jurassic World 2 and Incedibles 2. Beyond that, it's the stupid Bumblebee spin-off for Transformers and the Ocean's reboot/gender swap neither of which are threatening. Also, there isn't a better place for Deadpool 2. Feb already has Black Panther and that could potentially be a concern, March maybe but it puts it close to New Mutants. It's better to follow the Marvel and DC approach and leave a few months between big releases in order to allow proper time for marketing and hype. April is much better served for something like New Mutants. May is Avengers and going directly against that is suicide. July is Ant-Man and the Wasp, which could provide good competition for Deadpool 2 plus WB has an untitled DC movie slated for that month. August maybe (?) doesn't look like much is there for now. Sep is usually a bad month for big action movies. October is the same as Sep and it puts it too close to Dark Phoenix. November is probably a better spot for Dark Phoenix, X-Men Apoc drowned in it's summer release and it needs somewhere a little more free. Not only is December Star Wars month but it's also Aquaman and animated Spidy month, a pretty bad month to dumb Deadpool 2.

Very excited, as I went into Deadpool with such low expectations after flops like Green Lantern, and was blown away by the performance! Loved it! Hopefully lightning can strike twice! Wootwoot!

Seems like every month we have something to look forward to, with Transformers Last Knight, Blade Runner, Thor Ragnarok, The Last Jedi... *fapfapfap*

Bread and circuses as they say, and we're being treated quite well this year! :)

So much winning, we're going to get bored with winning!

but they are done with origin stories. We already got that in Civil War. Spiderman has his powers and Tony made him a suit. Origin done and over with.
