So I just upgraded to an MSI Z170A M3, i5 6600k, and 4 x 4GB Fury HyperX DDR4 2133. I reformatted my old Samsung Sata II 256GB SSD (forget model number but it's not listed on samsung site) and installed Windows 10. Installed all the drivers, got updates ... installed Steam and a couple other programs.

I downloaded and installed latest MSI update program and decided to update the BIOS for my new mobo. The program updated the BIOS and then rebooted the computer. Upon boot up it tells me to insert bootable media .. I think that it just threw the boot order out of whack due to having 2 spinners hooked up as well.. go into BIOS and now my Samsung SSD isn't showing anymore ..

I went through different settings to no avail .. tried different ports .. unplugged other drives that the mobo was seeing and used their cables and power plug in .. nothing ..

Fortunately the drive held out through the BIOS update and did toast my new mobo .. ah well .. waiting for a Scandisk 512GB M.2 x400 to get here now from Newegg and I'll reinstall windows again and see what happens.

..That older Samsung SSD served me well for the few years I had it .. bought it used off these forums.
 
not yet, I have a couple different setups that I'm currently in the middle of repairing that I'll try this in. I might throw it in my daughters setup tomorrow and see what happens.

If it does work in another setup, that would be really odd. I unplugged my DVD burner that my mobo picked up just fine and plugged in the Samsung with same cables .. and nothing.
 
Try plugging in just the power for the ssd while the pc is off, turning on the pc for ~10 min, then while the pc is still on plugging the sata back into the ssd. Then reboot the pc.

I had a crucial m500 ssd that would do something similar to this and the above method always worked to bring it back.
 
I just plugged the Samsung into a SATA docking station that I hooked up to my daughters computer and I could access the Samsung just fine .. I'll plug the drive back into my computer and if still not there, I'll try your method lilfiend.
 
well ... wattayuh know .. So I hook up my SATA docking station to my computer and windows tries to boot but bluescreens out of which is what I would expect. So I go to my daughters computer and redownload the latest BIOS again from MSI and put it on a flash drive.

I re-updated the BIOS this time from the built in MSI utility and now I'm back up and running on my "not so dead after all" Samsung and posting this.

This was my first unsuccessful BIOS flash attempt from Windows. ..and last flash from Windows :ROFLMAO::confused:
