Released on Steam and at other digital sites.

For those who might want to skip past the original game, or for those who simply want to be reminded of the first title's plot:

As always, please provide spoiler warnings when posting plot details. Thanks.

Initial impressions:

The controls are miles better. The original title had three separate polling speeds: one for when you were stationary, one for when you were moving, and one for when you were aiming. It pretty much sucked. Guys, I can enthusiastically confirm that there's none of that here. The game now feels perfectly normal. It's not cumbersome at all. (Seriously, how come all those people who wrote previews for this title didn't just come out and say this? Weird? I would have thought that for a lot of people this would have been the most important thing?)

The graphics are a lot better, with an emphasis on the lighting. The NPCs in particular are a lot more modern looking.

Your starting suit, believe it or not, is a straightjacket.

What are the graphics options like? Any of the input lag or unreasonable sluggishness like in the original?

All the control problems of the original game are gone, including the menu glitch with the fast moving mouse cursor.

I spent the weekend playing the original title, and thought I had gotten used to the controls, but playing with the Dead Space 2 controls is a breath of fresh air - like walking into a dark, stuffy room and throwing back the curtains and opening the windows.

The custom render settings are: bloom, glow, depth of field, anti aliasing (either on or off), blur, post processing, motion blur, flares, distortion, light quality (normal or high), decals, shader quality (low, normal, or high), shadow quality (off, normal, high, or very high).

Sounds good. Glad they have sorted the controls issue. So you can customise the controls now? DS1 was a PITA to get working nicely. I remember using GlovePIE to custom map the controls.

Have they captured the claustrophobic feel of the original? Any jump out of your seat scares yet?

Sounds positive Wabe. Might just pick it up when I can afford it. I did enjoy the original despite it's unoriginality and technical problems, but from what I've seen of the reviews so far the developers have explored and expanded the game's own mythos, and the technical issues look to have been addressed as well.

Dead Space 2 has much more color in it - it's sharper and clearer and makes the original title seem bland in comparison. Honestly, I doubt that anybody would find the first game acceptable on the PC after playing the second title.

My advice: play the first game first, and don't even touch the second until you're done.

One last thing before I go to bed - I tried using the 360 controller, and in my opinion the keyboard and mouse, which feels fantastic, is just vastly superior (and I'm normally a controller person).

On a Core i7-GTX 480 setup the game is ultra smooth and looks great. Honestly, some of you guys who have said you'll be buying the 360 version might want to reconsider,

This title needs and deserves a demo for the PC.

Unfortunately I bought the original a few days ago and still am unable to play it, the admins on the support forums have confirmed there will be no more patches for dead space, which means I've wasted my cash on the original.

I'd like to try the 2nd one but I'm not risking my money again, which is a shame, but oh well :/

Thanks for confirming that and I just pulled the trigger for this game on steam.

So I haven't played all the way through the first one because for some reason it couldn't really keep my attention. You think I should pick up the second one?

Stopped playing the first one after you shoot the asteroids. Got boring after that. The crappy controls was a big factor I think. Still interested to see how much they improved though.

Good to hear about the improved controls.... I really liked the first DS despite all the clunkiness. The first reviews on Metacritic are very good (for what it is worth):http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/dead-space-2

Does the game use DirectX 11?

I guess I am in for a wait on this title. Steam has me spoiled... I generally don't spend more than $29.99 on a game these days. I am not an early adopter...

I can't wait to play it sometime later this week; I pre-ordered the game and bought the first one with that deal Steam has over the weekend. I just need to complete the first one, I'm only about 1/2 way into the first one.

It is 49.99 on newegg for all 3 platforms.

Promo codes:

PC: EMCKJHE82
XBOX360: EMCKJHE83
PS3: EMCKJHE84

I couldn't even find it on Newegg.ca. If I would have to get it on newegg.com then i'm looking at US dollars and possibly extra fees to ship across the border.

The following review contains no spoilers, and is worth reading:

http://www.giantbomb.com/dead-space-2/61-25444/reviews/

I only got an hour into Dead Space 2 last night, and won't be able to return to it until tonight, but I definitely see where this guy is coming from.

Note, however, that he raves about the controls, and then mentions that he hadn't played the PC version. I connected the 360 controller, and if that's how the game feels on the 360 (it felt pretty good), it feels even better with the keyboard and mouse. I'm playing maxed out at 2560x1440 and can't possibly see how this title could look anywhere near as good on the console. So the PC folks get the better end of the stick this time out. Better controls and better graphics.

Remeber how in Dead Space you sometimes wanted to buy ammo, but were uncertain where the nearest store was?

Fixed.

Now, with a press of the button, the 'locator' will direct you towards the nearest store, workbench, save station, or objective. The locator itself even looks more organic now, because it curves instead of always going in straight lines.

Wow, the devs were really thinking on this one. My estimation of this design house has really gone up.

I'm gonna wait a week and see if there are any patches that will be released and I don't wanna be hit with the cd-key invalid thingy that seems to be happening right now.

Good review here from the EDGE.

Seems like there might be an issues with g13's

i preordered deadspace 2 on march 28th at eastore.com for $29.99. i think this was after they annouced it at paxeast. i got my copy delivered today

I bought Dead Space 2 from D2D, and now it turns out that the armor code for Dragon Age 2 is in-box only.

I would've bought the boxed copy if I had known this beforehand, since I covet that armor set.

Anybody here want to PM me their Dragon Age 2 armor code? If you're not going to buy Dragon Age 2 I'd really appreciate the code. I posted at the official forum about this too, and am hoping that somebody will give me their code if they're not going to use it themselves.

Looks like the PC ain't getting any love with regards to Dead Space 2: Severed :/

UPDATE: An Electronic Arts representative has confirmed that Dead Space: Severed will not be released for the PC.

Saying that I'm not a fan of DEVs releasing info on the DLC when the game just shipped.

I'd like to play this, but Two Worlds 2 released in NA today. This is the first time in a while that I have too many games to play and not enough free time.

Did they finally release Two Worlds Two? - an awesome title.

The developer, I believe, is pissed off with the publisher for holding it back. The game was finished in August, and it's pretty great.

Can't wait to play this! but it may be a few months I'm not paying over $40 for something that i'll play for 8hrs then not touch for years.

damn i missed out!

Early into it but I'm very impressed so far.

What do you think about the controls - much better, eh? And the graphics are so much cleaner, with more color and an emphasis on the lighting. I can't wait to get back to this tonight.

Feels great. Looks great. Everything's great as far as I'm concerned. :)

i guess i'll know for sure if it's negative or positive to me after few hours in

update - 2 hrs into game and i'm starting to like issac more
i don't have much of complaint about game so far except maybe it is too easy even on zealot level but then again i'm only 2 hours in

Can somebody please explain something for me about the original Dead Space's plot...

SPOILER ALERT:

Okay, so in the end of the game, we're informed that the marker is actually man-made, and that it was reverse engineered from scientists having studied the original marker. But what did humanity hope to gain from reverse engineering this marker thing, and depositing it on another planet?

What was the point? I don't get it?
