Ok, so I'm quite lazy when it comes to computer neatness.. and I have all the cables flowing in a tangled mess behind my box. The problem arose when I tried to get a bit more extension on my microphone, and it seemed to have pulled the Sound Card out of the PCI Slot, while both the computer was on AND sound was playing. My computer promptly crashed. I made sure the card was in properly and screwed in tightly this time, rebooted and now I'm getting no sound, and an error when attempting to play things in Winamp:

"Bad DirectSound Driver. Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration. Error code: 88780078"

Now, I've reinstalled both DirectX (dont know why) and uninstalled and REinstalled my Sound drivers - namely SB Live Value!. and still nothing.

DXDIAG, says: "No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer."

So is my card a dead stick?

Probably, you might also have a buggered pci slot to boot. Try the soundcard in a different pci slot before you throw it out btw.

Have you tried the onboard audio yet?
