Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster

Ahhh so this is why I've been seeing the dead rising games going for super cheap in all the key shops.
Didn't they remaster one of the others too?
Not the same voice actor either.

I had to look up the box art so I could remember the game. I never played it but remember the title.

The first one was the first great game released on the Xbox 360 that wasn't a multiplatform title, in my opinion. Gears of War came out 3 months after Dead Rising, and Dead Rising wasn't released to other platforms until 10 years later. I played the shit out of it. I loved the homage to the original Dawn of the Dead, and the amount of zombies on screen at once was revolutionary for the time. It was the first game Capcom made on the MT Framework engine, if I'm not mistaken.
Yeah they made like 4 of them.
I never got around to playing the other 3, oddly enough. I've heard the second one is good, but 3 & 4 are supposed to be terrible. There is also one side game that replaces the protagonist from the second game with Frank West from the first game.

DR4 gets a lot of hate but I bought it for $1.50 a year or 2 ago and had major fun with it except for the controls. The game basically has no rules and gives you wild freedom with making weapons from the get go, with no time limit shit.

It's just a massive zombie killing sandbox with mindless fun.

Sounds like I wouldn't like it, in that case.

It's not as structured as say the first Dying Light or even the first Dead Island, but what it lacks in conformity, it sure makes up for it with weapon development. :D

I haven't been this hyped for a game yet this year, and last year it was the RE 4 remake! I absolutely loved this game way back in 2005 or 6? I've played some of the newer ones but none of them hit like this one. It looks incredible, I can't wait to hit zombies with golf balls.

Came out in August 2006 😉

That sounds right, I played it on Xbox 360, and it was the first "High Definition" game I played on a tube tv that was 1080p lol. I remember people complaining on standard def tv's not being able to see the text.

I remember that, too. I played the game on a 55" 1080p DLP.

Some new details; apparently this isn't just a graphical update.

Can watch the vid for more info, but the remaster supposedly includes:

-New lighting, details & props
-Zombie models and beta content that never made it into the original full release
-Missing features that were cut from the original game (e.g. police zombies shoot their guns as they stumble around)

Other/gameplay enhancements:
-Interface overhaul
-Can finally walk while aiming gun
-Carrying large objects will shield you from gunfire
-Redesigned save system
-Ability to fast forward time

Not loving how you'll have to buy the deluxe bundle to get the OG Frank model, but the other additions sound like nice QoL improvements (though I wonder how they'll affect the difficulty).

Gears of War and this game was the reason I finally got a 360 back in the day...played at a crisp 720P resolution on top of it (couldn't afford one of those fancy 1080P TV's)

Any mention of getting rid of the 72 hour time limit? I know this was one of the core mechanics of the game, replaying it multiple times, and carrying over progress...but would really prefer to play without the limit. Rather play on my own time as I dont get much time these days to game and being crunched within a window with the expectation that you might do a few play thru's to level up....just isn't fun anymore for me.

Yeah, I don't know why they call it a remaster in the title of the game. This is a complete remake in the RE Engine, not a simple port to the new engine like Bioshock from UE3 to UE4.

No, the time limit is the whole point of the game. They added auto saves, though, so you don't need to run back to the safe room every time you want to save the game. No details on how that works yet, as far as I know, but I imagine it will save any time you get key story points, find survivors, etc.

TL;DW:
+/-Voice actors have been completely recast
+/-Gameplay changes make the game significantly easier, but also less frustrating
+Solid graphical upgrade all around, although some character models are significantly different and/or older
+Game performs well despite the graphical uplift and preview build status
+Improved companion AI means they're no longer dumb as bricks when rescuing them (I would call this an overall positive even if it makes the game easier, since most actual people in this situation would probably not run head-first into a throng of zombies)
+Improved controls
-Early game XP (while taking photos etc.) comes much easier, removing much of the challenge
-Boss fights against psychopaths are unbalanced to the point of being trivially easy
-Some content and dialogue has been cut or watered down for "modern audiences"

All of this is based on the current build and is subject to change.

Been posting about the censorship in Soapbox. The more that comes out about this, the less I am interested in it. I'll stick with the original.

It's a little bit of a bummer, but there's no way I'm not buying it. I'm hoping they tune the difficulty a bit, that's my only concern.

I bought this because it's $30 on sale. Too bad they censored stuff, but I can't remember what was censored anyways. I do like the easy mode, because I really just want to replay the game without the hassle. I don't know if this is a feature of easy mode or something they fixed, but I've had significantly less occurrences of survivors getting stuck grappling with zombies while escorting them; that was probably one of the more annoying parts I remember playing the original. If that no longer occurs in normal difficulty, then I'd consider replaying it on normal difficulty.

I'm playing on a 7800X3D + RTX 3090, 3440×1440 capped at 100FPS and it's running good with all settings maxed and using DLSS auto. Sometimes there is a slowdown when transitioning areas, namely the elevator to the safe area (might be the only time), but that doesn't seem to be related to GPU load because I'm not seeing GPU usage maxed in MSI Afterburner.

One major thing to note: This game uses VRAM. So far, I've seen it use just under 17GB VRAM, that's the most I've seen any game use. I'm not mad, because I have 24GB VRAM, but it should be known that this game will consume VRAM. I wish more games were like that so that I can justify my purchase. I'm mostly glad that it performs great with an RTX 3090. I'm not really happy about 5090 prices, so anything that is somewhat recent that plays well on a 3090 makes me happy.
