So I was booting my computer as normal today and my raptor didnt show up like it normally does in the bios. I found this wierd so I opened the case and decided to take a listen to it. When I turned the computer on the raptor made now noise at all. Some how the controller must of died. I dont know if it was my fault or not so I am RMA'ing the drive. I already bought a new one and decided to get a new antec powersupply because the old Aspire had a low 12v line. Could this potentially be my faulty PSU killing this harddrive or did it just die is the question. I figure I will send it in and see what they say is wrong and if they RMA that would be cool cause I would have 2 now. So who knows. I tried even using just a sata cable and a sata power cable and no legacy and it still didnt do anything.

that about covers it :p

as far as the PSU
yeh drives are highly suceptible to power events unlike the mobo there is no onbaord voltage regulation modual

as to if it was actually the PSU is another matter
it could have been a latent defect
but an old Aspire wouldnt inspire alot of confidence
Id run the numbers

then invest in a supply that exceeds spec personally

Thanks man I hope they can RMA my raptor. But anyways I am running off an 80gb ATA100 right now because I dont have a floppy drive to install the raid driver to run my new raptor doh. Oh well. I guess I will just install all my games on it until the next one comes cause I dont feel like reinstalling windows 3 times in 1 month. But anyways I had a 160gb Drive in that system to as my backup with all my personal data and pictures on it is their anyway to get my new install to recognize that harddrive and all its files. Its really crucial cause its got like 4 years worth the pics on it and I just bought my DVDR drive to back it all up. Any help would be greatly appeciated.
As of right now its telling me the drive needs to be formated.
