Ok so I have a spare Sun crt monitor, and It works expect for two lines that run across the screen. I didn't see them at first and I really don't think they were there in the beginning. The thing is they run across the entire length of the monitor (21") and are extremely fine and thin. They look smaller than the actual pixels. I read something about scanlines, could this be that and are they fixable? or are they dead pixels?

I heard that every Sony-manufactured CRT monitor ever has those 2 horizontal lines.

My NEC MultiSync FE 700+ has em, and before that, some other thing I got from the computer supply room had em too.
 
They are perfectly normal. Those two faint lines are what holds the aperture grill in place..
(Im pretty sure your CRT Monitor has a Trinitron Tube in it)
Screens 15" and less will have one right in the middle 17" and above will have 2 all Sony Trinitrons have them, Along with NEC Diamandtron tubes.
 
I thought only high end 21" CRT's had those damping wires. But yes they are normal. When I was looking for a new 21" CRT I came across this little annoyance so I ended up buying a 24" LCD :p
