I got my FW900 in and when I put up a white background there is are two black dots on the screen.

- One appears to be a divot BEHIND the glass... how the hell could that happen?

- The other isn't in front of behind the glass, it looks just like a dead pixel... wtf???

There is also some scuffs in the anti-glare coating giving off some reflective lines. Should I send this thing back? In the first 30 days the place I bought it from will pay for the shipping to send it back if something is wrong.

It's not impossible because my Dell P991 19" CRT at work has a dead pixel visible under a light background.

If you can exchange within the 30 days, go ahead since a dead pixel on a CRT is a oddity and certainly a defect.

I had an imperfection in the glass of my NEC monitor that looked like a dead pixel. Dell replaced it.

Yes that's it... since CRT are scanlines, not pixels.

I think it may just be a group of dead phosphors.

I'm going to try to send this thing back I guess... going to be a PITA to lift this thing back in the box.

I know on Trinitron monitors its VERY-VERY common to get dead horazontal bars. Just fullscreen something pure white and you almost alwase see a 1-pixel tall grey bar across the screen, and once i saw 2.

yup, i have 2 on my trinitron, but they really don't bother me that much. and the monitor is like 6 years old.

Are you referring to the 2 (or 1, or 3) damper wires? So common you will get those in 100% of Trinitron monitors :D

Just found another one... this time it is a red one.

I paid $510 for this thing so I'm definitely going to send it back. It cost $1000 directly from their website and ebay buy it now option. They called it "Grade A" which in their own words means no scratches, scuffs or visual issues. There is one wierd scratch on the inside of the glass, 2 dead pixels and a few scuffs on the anti-glare coating. It is going to be a total bitch to get this thing back in the box but I wan't to get what I paid for...

EDIT: ... lol it isn't the aperture grille wires, I'm not that ignorant :p

I had a similar experience when i bought my FW900. The seller assured me there would be no screen damage but it ended up having a few teeny scratches/divots on the antiglare coating (no dead pixels/phosphors though). I was gonna send it back but in the end i decided to take a 50% refund, the marks are small enough that i rarely notice them. Still sucks ass though.

I don't mind the marks on the anti-glare coating, they are barely visible even on a white background. Your lucky you didn't get dead phosphors though :(

I'm just so annoyed that this company advertises it as a Grade A screen, this isn't one guy on ebay but an entire company. This is just really dissapointing, I dread putting this thing back in the box lol.

hahaha, I think you are talking about the damper wires used to stabilize the aperture grille, which are found on all aperture grille monitors (trinitron and diamondtron).

lol, gotta give him credit for trying to help though!

Bop: can you get your hands on a degaussing wand maybe? They're known for clearing up phosphur + related issues. hope you work it out.

I can try it, but one of the marks on the screen is definitely a scratch and it looks like it is behind the screen.

My first GDM-F500, bought brand new ($1500), had a dead pixel in the upper left corner.

Dead pixels aren't confined to LCDs.
