I bought an Antec NeoPower 480W power supply a while back for the system in my sig. The system ran fine for a while, and suddenly went dead and wouldn't POST about three months back. I pulled everything out except for the essentials, and after a while the system wouldn't even power on and the southbridge started getting extremely hot. I got a new A7N8X-E Deluxe off of ebay and threw that in there, and its been good up until the other day. It started freezing during heavy video encoding, which at the time i just attributed to the 2500+ being clocked as a 3200+. So I powered it down about the third time it happened, and when i went to power it back on again later nothing happened except for a loud whining noise coming out of the power supply, like the last time but louder. And after i pulled the supply out and sniffed it, well it smelled like toasty electronics. I hooked a new one up to the motherboard, and it still won't POST or anything, it just kind of dimly lights up the Power LED on the board. nothing happens when i hit the power switch, except for sometimes the fans all just twitch and stop
So i guess my power supply is toasted, i'm kind of afraid to test it in another system to make sure. Is there any way I could test it or is the burning smell test enough? Antec has a 3 year warranty on all of their stuff, and i purchased it in august of 2004, so hopefully newegg will take it back. Still doesn't help with my motherboard though...
