Dead motherboard perhaps?

So thru trial and error, I think my issue is a dead motherboard, but I would appreciate some input from those more knowledgable.

Several weeks ago we had a power failure. On restart, my wife's computer (the one in my sig below) went into a boot loop. It will post, do the memory test and then crash and re-start while detecting ide drives. The fans spin up and ccfl lighting comes on so I've eliminated the psu. I cannot access the bios and F8 to boot in safe mode does not work. I tried putting the xp disc in hoping I could get to the repair function, but no luck with that. I have a sata to usb connector that allows me to connect her hdd's to my computer. I can read her hdd's and have backed up all of the important data onto my computer. I don't have access to another computer that is similar to hers, so I can't test the ram or cpu. I removed the mobo battery for 30 minutes to reset to defaults, but again no luck with that.

Any advice on further steps to try?
 
Do you have an IDE DVD/CD-ROM that might be dead or dying causing it to reboot when it tries to detect drives? I would try disconnecting that if there is one in there and see if it POST's then. Faling that, you may want to try disconnecting the lights and everything but the bare minimum components (CPU/RAM/Video/Hard drive) and see if it boots. It could be a bad board, it's hard to say.
 
I have previous motherboard having the same symptoms, but I change my power supply and it goes back into business. Maybe try to change power supply to check.
 
So I do have an IDE DVD...dohhh. Disconnected it, but there was no change. I disconnected the lights, second DVD and storage drive but left the boot drive connected, but moved the connector to a different port on the board. This time it did boot up, but very slow. About 10 minutes in total. Once xp is loaded, it works fine. Device manager doesn't show any errors and the event log is empty since the power failure on Jan 12. No evidence at all of the boot loop. Tomorrow I'll re-connect the storage drive and DVD and see what happens. Thanks for the help. :)
 
So I seem to have a motherboard with 4of 6 sata ports that are unresponsive. Both Gigabyte SATA2 ports and 2 of the four Intel ICH8 are not working. To use the boot/app drive and the CD/DVD, I have to disconnect my storage drive. Or to access the storage drive, I have to disconnect the CD/DVD to us that port.

So....is there a way to try and revive the 4 dead ports. Motherboards are not my expert topic and I hesitate to screw around with them too much. Is it as simple as re-loading the drivers? Thanks for any advice.
