Dead HDD

Hope this is the right section!

My girlfriend's HDD died in her HP-Compaq Presario CQ61-310sa and I'm looking for a replacement. Was just wondering if there will be compatibility issues with a new SATA 3.0 drive (the stock one was 1.5). Also if there would be a problem with getting a 7200rpm drive (stock was 5400)

Thanks in advance for your help!

No and no. Sata 3.0 is backwards compatible, and spindle speed has no bearing on compatibility.

Any SATA drive will work, but if you're going with a SSD then I recommend you either get a Crucial M4 series or Intel 510 series, Crucial M4s being the cheaper of the two.

If you are getting an HDD, then I recommend looking for the Samsung Spinpoint F3 7200 RPM 1TB hard drive, as it's usually cheaper than similar hard drives, yet it's just as fast if not faster than them.
