Ok I read through some of the posts looking for an answer before posting this but what happened was about a half hour my computer restarded itself, and when it turned back on my maxtor SATA ultra 16 250gig hd is no longer recognized. My setup is that I use this hard drive for storage, and I boot and run most of my apps off of a 120 gig WD hd. Now my question is, is what could have caused the hd failure, and is there anyway to somehow recover the data. I am still working on trouble shooting this but I figured that I would make this thread to get some help with this.

My computers specs are in my sig.
 
1) Check cables
2) Reset CMOS and reenter settings for SATA
3) Run manufacturer diagnostics on the drive
4) Investigate BIOS Update, IIRC there is a version 1019 for P4C800.

Ok I did checked all the cables reset the CMOS, I dont think that i can run manufacturer diagnostics becasue the drive itself does not show up at all, my next step is to update the BIOS and isolate that drive and switch the cable to another port.

does the drive spin up or is making some funny clicking sounds or a high pitched beeping sound?
We had a drive die yesterday on one of our editing machines.
 
Alright it seems that the drive spins up but the problem is that when I leave it pluged into SATA1 the drive will spin up but nothing recognizes the drive, but when I switch it to SATA2 then everything works fine.

Im not sure if this means that somehow I lost the SATA1 port or my HD is going to die soon but it seems like it is working for now but I really want to figure out what exactly is going on with this so that I can backup my data (which would mean buying another 250gig drive) and find out if my SATA1 port is still good or what.
