dead HD and lost data

my 80GB IBM hard drive just died on my, now it isnt even detected at POST so i guess it need expert help, anything i can do or will i have to send it somewhere to get the data from it?
 
I just got a drive back from OnTrack.
7.2Gb restored
1.3Gb completely lost.
$1700~ish total. Some clients just don't understand what a good backup strategy is worth.

If your BIOS doesn't see it, you're pretty much SOL.
If you can at least get the machine to recognize it you can try something like FileScavenger, i've had good luck with that too.

try a different cable
try a different channel
try it as a single drive master, then try cable select
try on a different power lead

past that there is the very difficult and likely unsuccessful swapping the circuit board
the trick being actually locating a compatible circuit board with the proper firmware for that drive
many changes occur within the basic model run, so for starters it has to be exactly the same model
and ideally near the same date of manufacturing
 
put the drive on its own data cable, then try and transfer it to a different drive. if the computer sees it, great. transfer data fast cuz u it may reboot on u. keep trying this until u get all of it.
